Baby Adolf? 20 British babies given same name as Nazi leader

Unlikely idols of parents revealed by names chosen for their children

Naming your child after a “celebrity” isn’t a recent phenomenon, finds family tree website FindMyPast.co.uk. Looking through its records, researchers have discovered that 20 baby Adolfs have been born in Britain since the war.

Back in the 1800s, Dick Turpin was popular inspiration for parents and in the 1960s, at least five Ringos were born to Beatles fans.

Records also showed that football was just as influential in the 1970s and 80s as it is today with Pele and Maradona both becoming namesakes.

Makes today’s celeb trends of Twilight characters and Heaven spelled backwards seem really quite sensible.
