The concept:
Launched this month, the Beebyhart Carricover is a new winter coat to put over your baby sling rather than under it.
Last year Baby Bjorn launched their own useful snuggle to go over baby slings, but their model is more like a mini sleeping bag, where the Carricover is a fitted coat with sleeves and legs.
The winter model (available in black or olive green - registered postage free - from the company's website, and in black from branches of John Lewis) is fleece-lined and waterproof. It's also fully breathable so your baby doesn't get too sweaty.
They plan to bring out a lighter, anti-UV version for the summer and hope to offer bespoke versions in other funky patterns via individual orders.
In action:
Designed by two mothers, the carricover is a good idea. Regular sling users will know that one of the biggest hassles when you're out and about with your baby, is that, when they have their overcoat on inside the sling, they can get too hot. Also, if you're out and about shopping, you have to keep taking the sling off to take your baby's outerwear off when you go into a stuffy shop or get on a hot bus.
With this cover, you fit it over the top of the sling so it's easy to take on and off even when your baby has fallen asleep.
Flexibility:
It has a detachable hood so it can be used when you're carrying your baby facing you or facing outwards and has a velco fix over the baby's chest so it can be used as a fully waterproof outfit even when you're not using it with a baby sling.
It's designed to fit any make of sling and can be folded back into a pocket when not in use, so we found it really practical without being too fiddly.
