The Practical Art of Baby Massage by Peter Walker

An easy to follow video guide to sharing massage with your new baby.
Walker's enthusiasm is infectious, it's a shame there's not more of his own personality in the video
Features: Video and DVD, duration approx 30 minutes

Peter Walker has been involved with massage and movement for babies and toddlers for over 20 years. He is a keen champion of the good that can come from confident bonding between parent and baby, as well as the importance of getting babies limbs and bodies moving, to stimulate healthy growth, better breathing and general development.
He has been teaching baby massage classes for years and in the last few years he has become an international consultant on the subject. Check out his website (above) for more about the virtues of massage and the power of touch.
Baby massage is something any parent can do with their new baby (from ten weeks). All you need is a warm room, some good, natural oil like olive oil, a towel for when your super-relaxed baby decides to wee all over the place (!) and your pair of hands to rub, gently pull and massage.
Until your baby can sit up, there are few pleasures you can share, but if you get massage right, it's relaxing for your baby, boosts your confidence in handling this tiny being, and can help babies develop better posture and general health.

The video is very low-tech, but clearly explains the different stages of massage, none of which are technically difficult or dangerous to try on your child.
If you can't get out to classes in your local area, this video/DVD is a useful way of trying out a special but simple routine with your baby.

The ThinkBaby verdict
