Natalie got a surprise when her labour lasted a mere 8 minutes
A Yorkshire couple has welcomed the birth of their daughter after a labour lasting a mere eight minutes.
Natalie Dunleavy gave birth with the help of her partner Joshua Courtney, who was advised by a midwife over the phone, after her waters broke and her labour progressed quickly at their home, reports BBC News.
“It was so quick it was unbelievable. Josh was amazing. It was an experience to remember,” Natalie said.
Natalie, who’s already mother to four-year-old son Jayden-Lee, started getting pains but put it down to an upset stomach.
“But then the pains started to get unbearable,” she said.
“I just had this urge to go to the toilet, I don’t know why… and my waters just burst and went all over the floor. That’s when I knew,” Natalie explained.
Natalie, who had been told that her daughter had developed the Group B streptococcus (GBS) infection, admitted that she was frightened about how quickly her labour was progressing as midwives had told her she would need intravenous antibiotics in the hours before the birth.
“I just started panicking and screaming. Then I realised that I didn’t have a choice anyway and there was nothing I could do to stop her coming out,” said Natalie.
Baby Bo-Pierre, who weighed 8lb 4oz at birth, was given the all clear after she was given a course of antibiotics.
“I was in disbelief the majority of Thursday and a bit of Friday and a bit of Saturday. She’s not even meant to be here yet, she was due on the 17th,” she said.
Joshua, who helped to deliver his daughter, admitted how he felt during the birth.
“I was on the phone to the midwife and all of a sudden Natalie said to me that her waters had broken. I ran back into the bathroom panicking like mad. The woman on the phone was trying to calm me down,” Joshua said.
“I didn’t believe it was me that did it, I think my body went into auto pilot,” he said. “She’s absolutely brilliant. She’s perfect. She’s a gift,” Joshua added.
Congratulations Natalie and Joshua! Wouldn’t we all like an eight-minute labour?!
