Sky Sports presenter Sophie Blake has defied doctors who told her she would be unable to have more children
Congratulations to Sky Sports presenter and mum-of-one, Sophie Blake, who has announced she’s pregnant with her second child. But this is no ordinary pregnancy, as Sophie was told she would not be able to conceive again after being left infertile by a condition called Asherman’s syndrome.
The condition began after complications at the birth of her first child, daughter Maya. Asherman’s causes scar tissue to grow in the womb, making conception unlikely or impossible. Surgery is possible but, as in Sophie’s case, the scars can grow back.
The TV presenter was also told IVF would be too risky and had begun to consider adoption before defying doctors by conceiving naturally.
Sophie went public about her condition six months ago, hoping to raise awareness of Asherman’s. She told the Daily Mail, “I have a beautiful daughter and if we don't have another child then she will always be enough. But I don't want other women to go through what I have because of a lack of awareness.”
