I have bought some ready to eat prawns.  I thought they would make a good finger food for my 9-month old.  But now I'm having second thoughts as none of my baby recipe books give advice on when to introduce them.

Does anyone know?

Hi Loopy, the FSA recommend no shellfish till after one as it is high on the list of allergens, but if you have no history of any food allergies from 6months should be fine, as a finger food or puree. if you think about scandinavian and asian countries where they eat more and raw fish, than meat a baby would probably have it from weaning!

Id be tepted to not give him ready cooked prawns but to buy a bag of raw frozen ones and cook them your self, or crab is quite a good one, you can get it tinned and it's already mushed up a bit! just comb it through for shell!!

I'll give Freya a bit of prawn next time we have them, hope that helps hunny
