Sleeping Through

Georgina is now five weeks old. I have started to regulate when she feeds in the day to be every four hours, but I am desperate for her to sleep through the night as I have to return back to work in a couple of months and don't think I can cope with being woken a couple of times a night for dinner. I do give her a bedtime routine of bathtime and pyjamas before a feed and a story. She will naturally go for five-ish hours but then screams for food. Any ideas please!!

hi there i'm chuffed to nuts sophia slept right thru for the first time last night she had a feed at 7.30pm snd when i went to work at 08.00am this morning she was still snoring.
the best piece of advice i can give is don't be too ridgid on the 4hr feed regieme.
the wife was set on a 4hr routine and even had a timer to let here know when to feed sophia, but after a couple of weeks i talked her in to feeding roughly every 4hrs but if she wasnt awake to wait and feed her later, and we woke her at 11.30ish at night before bed for a feed.

She is only five weeks old at the moment, don't rush her. It sounds like you have a good routine going during the day and for bedtime. Once she is alittle bigger to take on more food she will start to sleep longer. my little boy started sleeping longer when he was about 10 weeks old, i.e from 10.30 at night until 6.30-7am. He is now 5months and sleeps from 7pm-7am. I made sure he fed lots in the day. Stick to your routine and once her little stomach can take more food she will sleep longer. I took some ideas from the contented little baby book, but it is a little rigid for "normal" people who can't afford live in help. You will get there I promise.

Thanks for the advice. I am hoping to get her into a routine as soon as possible as I have to return to work in July and don't want the one and a half commute on no sleep!!
I think I may try Lukes idea of waking her for a feed just before I go to bed to see if I then get a good few hours from then.
