Hi

Both my boys were born quite big babies (both 8lbs9) and although I breast fed I was literally feeding on demand sometimes every hour or two in the first couple of weeks. Therefore I would feed on demand but maybe check with your midwife or health visitor if you are not sure.

You cannot overfeed if you breastfeed. You can still get your own milk supply back if you have stopped breastfeeding.

Hi there - i too breastfeed all my kids, and like emma, you are on demand sometimes for what seems like ages in those first few weeks and my last baby was 10lb 9oz born, she was feeding for the UK i think in those first weeks and my god i felt like dolly parton on speed i can tell you, dont think my boobs will ever be the same again LOL, so in answer to your question i think for his size its not unheard of for him to want the amount he does, im assuming he settles after "the top up!" for a few hours??? if not, then maybe its better to have a word with your HV and see what she has to say as anymore at this stage would be abit much for his tum to handle.

All the best, hope its been helpful - kaz preg 17+1 with no.8 xx

I agree with llamacroft there is not overfeeding with breastmilk. If you have problems with over excretion, use breastpums to collect milk and breast pads to avoid clothes stains. Anyhow, you should be very proud.

The hv will help but u no what your baby needs and wants if he is hungry feed him he not old enough to b crying or not settling for attention so he wants more my daughter never stops feeding lol she not over weight or anything I've always been told that feeding is baby led just speak to hv they might refer to paediatrician just to check for underlined reasons on why he might b hungry all the time they did with me but everything normal baby just got big appetite or change his milk x

No i dont think your overfeeding at all! the midwifes tell you to feed on demand and thats what your doing so i wouldnt worry, its better that hes feeding and wants milk rarther than not. My 12 week old baby is on 5oz every 2 hours but she only weighs now what your baby weighed at birth, youll have a big strong baby at your rate which is a good thing

my son was over 9lb at birth and he was combined breast and bottle fed, breastfeeds would last an hour and a half and he went straight to sma hungry baby the curd based formula for hungrier babies, as he was never full on sma or cow and gate starter milk. maybe you should try that, although the rule of thumb was when my son was born not to mix them, (info changes all the time so its hard to keep up!) but bearing in mind his size i doubt your overfeeding. my second son who was just breastfed gained 90z in 5 days but i think i had hyperlactation as i used pumps at first but then he settled at the breast so fed him till he was one. x

I'm worried about over feeding my baby too. He is 9 days old and weighed 8lbs 3.5oz when born and has about 90ml every two hours. He also brings a lot back up after he's finished. I give him SMA Gold stage 1. The midwife/health visitor hasn't really said much in regards to this even when i asked about it. Help/advice would be appreciated. xx
