Oh Em its just the name of white bread here, funny as I love the name, if your in Spain then look out for it as it always keeps fresh longer!!!

Oh Lili has lots of shoes as I cant stop myself at the shops but she never has them on her feet, I must be mad really, guess its all that bimbo in me....

Em how do you get DJ to puke of the wood floor. Were going to look out for a big rug for the lounge as the one I have if wool and a bit hairy for my fairy, when she crawls along the floor she gets to the tiled floor then tried to go on her feet and hands as I guess she dont like that floor to much, today we were outside by the pool and she was sat on the floor in the shade so she went to make her way to me in the pool but decided the floor in the sun was too hot so stopped and when back into th eshade, funny girl.

Well im off to bed now, baby in her cot sleeping away dog and cat have had a going over with the brush and this mommy is tired so night all.

Hi all,

Back from our weekend of fun! The day times were great on Saturday we went to a wildlife garden where we saw crocs, tigers and all sorts of other animals, then yesterday we went to a sea life centre....the night times were not so much fun. Oscar woke up once each night taking around 3hrs to get back to sleep, then last night he woke up coughing. He's had a tickly cough for 2wks already (we took him to the docs on Friday and they said it was nothing to worry about) so didn't think too much about it. Hubby went to settle him down and give him some water. He called me in to see if I could give him some water but he wouldn't take it from me and the cough was getting worse so I thought I'd try giving him boobie. He had some milk and put him back down in the cot - he rolled on to his front and was trying to sleep but kept being woken by his cough/bark. He then started whinning so took him out and rocked him but he just couldn't stop coughing and it sounded horrible so we eventually headed to the local hospital! They said it sounded like croup and gave Oscar some steroids to relieve the inflammation in throat, which it soon did and he then fell asleep on me. So I'm really looking forward to our next holiday in Sept!!!!

Oh Steff, what have you decided about your job?

I generally put butter on the toast for Oscar, although I don't know if I'm supposed to!

Don't know what to say about the sicky carpets, we have sick stains all over ours I'm just building up the energy to get our hoover out (with carpet cleaning attachments) to clean the carpets...it may take a few more months though!!

Everything else I have just read has completely flown out of my head - being distracted by the tennis. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hi everyone!

Rach, glad to hear you had fun at the weekend! Where did you go? Sorry to hear that Oscar has been sick, poor thing.  I hope he's feeling better soon, I'm sure he will now he's got some medication, I can't believe doctors sometimes!! So many times they're so dismissive and too impatient to look into things properly!

Steff, what have you decided about the job?  I still don't really have a dilema because the entrance test isn't til next monday.  It's such a difficult one.  I really want a good job to help give Lucia a stable financial future, but maybe staying at home with her would be more beneficial in the long run.  OH thinks I'm absolutely mad to even consider turning the job down.  The thing is though, his 3 nephews were all in full-time nursery from about 5 months old.  He thinks I'm "lucky" to not have had to work up until now.

Well, had more to say but Lucia has started squealing, I think it's her teeth, again!

Hi girls

The decision has been made, thanks for asking.  I'm going back to my old job.    I saw new job guy in Tesco on Saturday and bit the bullet.  I was gutted telling him.  If he were to open a branch in Haverfordwest I'll knock his door down for a job!

The next thing I have to do is sort out childcare.  I never had  to think about this last time, DS's dad was just about unemployable, so he had the baby (so I thought) whilst I worked.  I found out later that he was leaving the baby with his sister and spending my money in the slot machines!  Scrote!

Laura, you have to do what you think is right for you and Lucia.  In the meantime, keep your options open.  Take the test and see where that takes you.

Gotta go, madam's just woken up

Love to all

Steff and Emily

I remember what I wanted to say... Kirsty, BIMBO bread is great isn't it??!!  That and Bonka coffee, my faves

Also, thanks for your lovely comments about Lucia's piccies on Facebook, it was nice going to the beach, but I was far too hot, 37º!!! Also, I couldn't sunbathe because I'm taking antibiotics which make your skin more sun sensitive (like I need help being susceptible to sunburn!!).

Show/hide user stats
Steff, well done for taking a tough decision.  When will you be starting?
Show/hide user stats

Good morning!

Just a quick one... I think I'm going mad and I'm starting to panic a bit.

This week and last week I haven't been to mummy and baby group because my mobile's melted and I don't have anyone's numbers.  We meet in a different place each week.  Anyway, the weekend before last we were in Madrid and saw all of Gus's family.

First of all, his mum is really screechy and loud and not at all gentle when playing with Lucia and she gave her a my little pony, which Lucia didn't like. She also didn't like the balloons they gave her.  So, they then said, she was a "miedosa", which means like a wuss who's scared by everything, which I don't think is true at all.  She just has likes and dislikes like everyone else.

Then, on the sunday, we went to Gus's sisters new house.  When we got there I took Lucia into her cousin's bedroom. He's going through a bit of a naughty phase because he has a 2 month old sister and he's jealous etc.  Anyway when I sat her dowh to play with him, he threw some cars on her head and then stood on her hand (I don't think on purpose), so obviously she cried.  Then, everyone was saying, "oh well, Lucia spends all day at home on her own with her mum, she's not used to other children and doesn't know how to play.

After that, gus's brother and SIL arrived with their 2 kids (4 and 2), then his cousin arrived with her 2 kids (3 and 2), so there was a load of people all crowding into her at once and she got a bit hysterical.  It was also really hot and she was teething (a tooth came through 2 days later).  Anyway, they all kept implying that there was something wrong with her and it's got me a bit worried.

So, I'm worried about missing baby group and because Lucia just wants me to cuddle her all day (she's being really clingy at the moment and will only sit and play on her own for about 10 mins at a time). I do think she's still teething.

Do you think she'll grow up being anti-social if she doesn't spend more time with other people??

Really sorry for the rant, but I needed to get it off my chest!!!!!!!

Show/hide user stats

Laura, you rant away!  You are not doing anything wrong, Lucia will not grow up to be anti-social.  Of course she is going to cry if she is hurt (toy cars hurt!), or overwhelmed by too many unfamiliar faces, it means she is normal.  On top of all of that she is teething too, I think I'd be crying in her position.

Em has definate dislikes - foil being ripped off to wrap Daddy't butties and about 3 minutes into "Razzledazzle", a kiddies' programme on CBBies she starts crying.  Strange child!

Don't worry, you know Lucia better than anyone else, do what you think is right.

Show/hide user stats

Laura, as Steff said, pay no attention to what everyone else says you know your own child. Me and Oscar regularly meet up with other mums and babies but he still basically plays with me all the time, where as the other babies (of a similar age) move around the room and play with all the toys. It doesn't matter if he is teething or if he isn't on top of the world, he just likes playing with his mummy!

Right got to go, hubby needs help with brushing Oscar's teeth! Had more to say so I'll try and get on later. Have a good evening all.

Show/hide user stats

Laura its normal from what I guess as Lili is sometimes the same and all Oh'f family are talking pooh!!!!!!!!! Wana know something funny Lili likes English people more than Spanish as they sweele a bit as you know.......

Show/hide user stats

Thanks everyone!!  I'm feeling a bit better today.  I think I've got PMT too, grr!!  I KNOW that Lucia loves being around other children.  Every time she sees another child she squeals and smiles.  Also, she is fine around my family too, she only got a bit whingey around my mum's crazy friends!  She also lets my friends hold her no probs, and the other mums from the baby group.

OK, sorry to drone on, but the other mums who were at SIL's house all had 2 kids, so when their 2nd kids were babies they were used to being played with roughly by their older brothers. I think they forget how ridiculously over-protective they were over their 1st babies (like me!!).

I think the whole situation got to me... I had heard for 2 days from my MIL that Lucia HAS to be in the nursery by 12 months old so she gets used to being around other children, that she should be wearing shoes, cos otherwise how is she ever going to walk, that she needs to get her ears pierced before her christening.  Anyway, I'll have to grin and bear it, although after what I said to Gus last night, I have a feeling he's gonna be telling her to er, be quiet next time we see her!!!

Anyway, thanks again for your support!! I hope everyone has a good day!!!

Stand your ground girl!  Good that Gus is backing you up.  The Spanish side of your family has to realise that you come from a different culture and have different ideas.

Shoes - how do African tribal children learn to walk if they never wear shoes

Nursery - she has a wide social circle, no need to worry there.

Getting her ears pierced - pffft!

Hi All

How is everyone doing?  Looking forward to the weekend??

Oh Laura how insensitive are your in-laws?  Steff is right - you come from a completely different culture so they have to understand you may want things a different way.  It all sounds a bit old fashioned to me!  I am totally with you on the ear piercing.  I know some of you on here quite like it but I really don't like seeing young babies with their ears pierced!  You do sound a lot cheerier now though!

Rach - hope Oscar is sleeping good again after your trip!  Had a nightmare two ngihts with Lilly!  I was up every hour!  And the thing is I don't go in and talk to her or anything I just pat her back!  Anyway for the past 2 nights she has slept all night till 7!  Wohooooooooo!  For the past 2 months she has been waking up at 6!!??!  A bit too early for me te he he he he!!

Lilly has had a cough but seems to be getting better!  She has been really sleepy so I have got loads of jobs done!  Going to the Dominican in less than 3 weeks so been filling little bottles up and stuff!  Just got the cases out and hung all the clothes up in one place!

Lilly is 9 months today!  Can you believe it??  She has been outside for as long as she was in my tummy!!??!

Lou + Lilly xx

Lou yes I never thought as it like that, 9mths wow how time has gone so quick, now Lili is in her real PJ's and she looks like a little girl now that plays games all day. Luck you going to the Dominican.

Laura glad your back on the bright side of life and sounds like you have a good OH.

Lili too has been getting up since we came back from UK everymorning at 6am, wish she would just sleep that extra hour like before.

Hello girls!

Emily has been coming on in leaps and bounds.  She can pull herself up to standing using anything she can get her hands on - baby gate, toybox, sofa, me...  She is proper crawling too, up on hands and knees, and she is getting quicker.  She can get over the step of the gate if it is left open, and she asks things by pointing and saying "Ooh?", eyebrows raised and everything, it is so sweet!

I can't believe babies are 9 months old already!  How fast has that gone?

I hope babies sleep a little later tomorrow morning so us Mummies can have a lie-in.  Daddy always gets up with Em on a Sunday, so I'm loking forward to staying in bed.

Love to all

Steff and Emily

Oh yes i hope some of you got your lie in this morning as you can see im up again with the crack of dawn, whats with the 6am waking up now, its killing me. Papa gets Tue and Wed off work so im looking forward my lie in then.

Lili can nearly wave goodbye but still no toothie pegs is anyone else toothless too?

Go Em Ooh, yes, thats cute.

Show/hide user stats

Morning all. We've been up since 6 too and considering we didn't get to bed until 1.30 after being out at a barbecue I'm a bit shattered.

Laura, you stand your ground! Elliott was in nursery from 9 months old and he has always been really clingy around others, even when it's a family thing and it's his cousins - it was only from the age of about 4 that he didn't want me to stay with him the whole time. My SIL's kids were never in nursery and they're really sociable. I think it's the child's personality, not to do with nursery. It's not like Lucia never sees other children and you keep her in the house all day! I read that babies learn to walk better in bare feet anyway!

Harvey has learned to crawl! It seemed to come together for him a few days ago and he can go quite fast now. On Friday morning he crawled out of the living room to the kitchen to find me which was really sweet. He's much less frustrated too which is good all round. Another tooth has just come through which gives him 5 now. My mum's friend's grandaughter is 1 though and has no teeth at all. I think it just varies from baby to baby.

Harvey's got his first camping trip next weekend. There are 7 families going with 17 kids in total! Harvey's the youngest but there are some teenage girls so I probably will only see him when he needs feeding or is grumpy! Hope the weather is good. Anyone seen a forecast for Essex?

Well done Lilli for waving and Emily for pointing!

Harvey can't do those things but as I'm looking at him he's trying to take his nappy off and singing at the same time. Better go and fasten it again before it gets messy!

Have a good Sunday

Hi all,

I'm actually too tired to read the posts - sorry I'm feeling lazy this evening after playing badminton. I'll try and get round to reading and commenting tomorrow but just wanted to tell you all my proud mum moment....Oscar took 3 steps unaided this morning!

Show/hide user stats

Just a quick one. We're off camping for the weekend. Think of us putting the tent up in the 'heavy showers' that are forecast. Will let you know how Harvey finds it.

Kath

Hi girls,

Long time no speak!

Well, firstly Laura I agree with you there, what is the Spanish fascination with stapling earrings into babies ears? I agree with Lou. I really HATE pierced ears on babies. I think it's cruel. It's nasty enough when they HAVE to have injections for their health, without introducing them to more pain for 'social' or vanity reasons. Also, if you cut into their skin, its exposing the child to the risks of germs getting in. You stand your ground honey! Good on you.

Just hung out a load of washing and it is hammering it down with rain. I straightened my hair after pegging it out (DJ was taking a nap) so couldn't run out to get it. OMG.

Lucky you Lou, going to Dom Rep! We are going to south of france next Fri for 2 weeks. I haven't been on here lately cos we are planning big family cruise 2009. Either Caribbean or Panama Canal. My moneysaving skills are being pushed up to warp factor 9 LOL. Have been watching sky travel/teletext holidays/thomas cook tv/thomson tv EVERY day. Saddo.

Well, DJ is also REALLY clingy and grizzly. He wants me all the time. I have to sit on the rug with him and engage him in something. He is also cutting upper right tooth and has a cough, so maybe thats a contributing factor.

Kath, hope weather holds for the camping. Sounds ace.

Rach, well done to Oscar. Well done to Lilly, Harvey and Emily too.

DJ crawls like lightening and climbs on everything. He stands in his cot and jumps up and down.

Bit worried, cos DH want to move house. He has a 64 mile daily round trip commute now, and it's hammering the petrol (especially with horrible government putting petrol up even more!) Luckily we're tied into mortgage for 3 more years, so can't move yet. I like where we live (DH doesn't) we have great facilities nearby and I have friends here. I don't know anyone in west Birmingham. Boo hoo.

Kirst, don't worry about Lili's teeth. My sister was 1 before getting any, so was my friends daughter (they both have ful sets now!) Also, DJ keeps biting me when he gets excited, and it's a bit shocking. I put him down on the floor each time, to teach him he doesn't get mummy cuddles when he bites!!

Have a nice (wet) day all,

Em x
