I think some people do use dummies to shut them up, but we gave one as in comforted him. We found that at 2 weeks old when he was really upset Charlie would be soothed bu sucking on my little finger. We decided that he may as well try a dummy than use my finger and instantly it comforted him. Some babies just like to suck on something. What I hate to see is when older toddlers walk round with them in and clearly they aren't using it cos they are upset. Once they start to talk they should def not walk round with them in. Charlie has it just to go to sleep or when he's tired and grumpy. And it works...!

yeah i dont think could have lived without it early stages as the colic was so bad Theo could cry for 12 hours and we just couldnt console him at all. he more or less had it in all the tim then. Now he hardly needs it. We just try and limit it to bedtime ( as in using it as a sleep aid). However think some people also use drinks or food as a comforter dunno what is worse when theo is whiney i give him bit of apple or rice cakes to nibble on than the dummy during the day but not just for the sake of it if that makes sence. I think if i hasnt of sucked my thumb i wouldnt have given dummy i thugh at least dummy can be taken away by then they reject thumb . My mum was no way jose to the dummy and i found my thumb, i suppose its al aobout our own expereinces. saying that tho you dont see thumbsucking so much in public mainly i think because they think its naughty balhblah whereas dummies seen as more acceptable. ( i dont like seeing them in older babies neither!) I hope it wont ened uop a battle to give the dummy up. Well i dont know what is wrong with Theo as this was 2nd night in a row that he woke at 4am demanding a milk feed after trying to get him t sleep. hwe has not done this since he was 5/6 weeks old. At leats he would wake but soon settle. he is also taking the whole 8 oz! Im not sure what to do as he is having 28oz during the day! ( but not any at lunch just midday as he wasnt wanting it. I dont see the point of re introducing it as this is stage when they should be reducing milk. Like i said i i give him at lunch he doesn want it . I am going to see what happens tonight and go from there. he may just have been hot and thirsty. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Well Theo has started ( sort of ) crawling now however its not quite there yet but he goes forwards now and i went for a bath yday came up and he had switched the dvd player off and took all the dvds out of the shelf! I was so shocked was funny at same time scary!! So have to put him in cot now when having a bath.

Im not saying its wrong to give ur child a dummy at the end of the day it is totally ur decision. I just fink they are awful things it is just like a plug as sum parents i have herd say o stick the plug in etc. I didnt want to use a dummy 1 cuz i dont think they look very nice 2. i didnt want the baby getting into the habit of spitting it out in the night and me then having to get up 2,3 or 4 times to put it back in as they are very clever and soon catch on that u will go running to put it back in and as a result of no dummy he has been sleeping thru for i dont no how long now from 6pm til 7am and i get full nites sleep as i dont have to keep going into him to put dummy back in.

I know what you mean about them looking awful, I too only use as a comforter(when she tired) rather than just to stop her moaning. She has a go of her thumb now and them but is not for it really. I also find if her teeth are bugging her it helps as something to chomp on. Eva maybe he just having a growing spurt, have you tried increasing the amount of food you giving him(portion size I mean). Don't you find just as you think that they sorted in their sleep/routine something else comes along and upsets the apple cart. Thats mad he nearly crawling, this time last year they we were only half way through our pregnancies. Tilly just about sitting up on her own, still propt up with pillows for her tumbling which she can do alot. The minute she mobile everything will be being moved as she is so nosey and tries to get everything, she will be very agile the amount of stretch and twisting she does to get at things is funny. Weather is pants here today, is like bloody winter, hopes it bucks up next week for my jollies.

lol kezo theo does this too ( putting hands in mouth to shomp on) he is teething really bad at mo so maybe the waking is cos of that. Thanks i dint think it could be a spurt. Well i thought i was giving too much ! I give porridge with blended bannana and mango plus either toast or a pear ( sliced) then for lunch he has a veg or meat/fish home cooked meal ( yoghurt pot sized) then a pot sized portion of fruit or a petit filous. then has apples or rice cakes as snack then dinner is a veg or meat meal plus fruit and one or 2 rice cakes. on top of that he has approx 24 oz milk in a day. is that too little or too much??I dunno will see how tonight goes! Been rainin here too totally pants!Hope it gets better too!

They're all different so depends on their appetite I suppose. If he finishes everything no props try giving little more, or speak to HV andsee what they think. Tilly has 7oz and readybreak for breaky, 7oz and 2 icecube size of meat/fish dish plus bit of fruit for lunch, 7oz in afternoon, 2 icecube size veg or meat/fish + yogurt for tea then 8oz for bed. She doesn't finish all of it though and somedayss more than others. The icecube sizes are from AK trays and these are bigger than normal trays(maybe I'm only supposed to give 1 as a portion!). Last few days she not taken hardly any pudding but eating most of main meal. Unfortunately this has meant although she not constipated its harder for her to poo and is causing her discomfort, fine once it happens. I tried to get her to have a bit of juice but she not keen on that either. She was 6 mths yesterday so not too worried with the milk intake yet. Right take care all and will catch up when back, LOL xxx

Gosh william doesnt have much milk. He has 4oz wen he wakes which he doesnt always drink all, Then an hr later he has his breakfast which is ready brek or rusk, He will have 7oz and a rusk at lunch. Tea time he has 4 icecubes of home made savoury and either a yog or rice pud or fruit puree then at bed he has 6oz which he doesnt always finish. xx

hey girls kezo i no you on ur hols so hope you having a lovely time but you were def right it was a growth spurt and he is back to normal , not only that but he has been put in sleeping bag after bath and now when he falls asleep wihout dummy he stays asleep only waking 6/7 for a chat then falls back to sleep on his own again. am hoping he will continue this. ( i no they say dont let baby fall asleep on bottle) but literrally he is concked out and theo is a light sleeper by natue. we have finally agreed to put him in his own room! rebecca dont worry about the milk 17 0z is what you give plus am sure you give it in his cereal. they say if baby not taking much milk to give more diary and you are giving him youghurt which is fine, if anything you can give him some cheese. anyways if you are hoime cooking and using diary that all counts towards it to. is sunny here but windy a hoping it will change so i can take him to the park to se his freinds.

hey vicki we have put down one side the tiny love book which has panels like mirors etc and on other side i have this baby piano thingy and the lullaby thing as keps legs out and keeps him occuoied when he wakes early! I never used a cot bumper ! Do you use a gro bag- they work really well and theo doesnt get legs stuck although sometimes an arm lol. are you still doing gina ford..i tired this as wanted to out him ino a routine that will work at nursery as most babies seem to ahve thier longest nap at lunch. however i find that if i wake him after 45mins mid morn nap and although he will have the 1.5 to 2 hr lunch nap, he is still tired and needs a 30min catnap before dinner. no way will he stay awake 5 hrs!! This makes him so tired and whingey that he fals asleep at bottle and then he then wakes up 4 am! the routine has made him worse plus baby gropus clinc etc all seem to be at lunchtimes - how do u work round it or have u too adapted it to charlie... x

thats fab rebecca god theo does that too! lol we are going to ikeas at wkend to but a cabinet to out the dvds away etc and have cleared the cofee table. typial boys only interetsed in gadgets lol. the has so many toys yet all he really wants r dvds, remotes, mobiles and my laptop!! does anyone know how soon they progress to walking as theo can pull himself up, hold onto things and hold on to us with one finger and now he can bend down to pick something up of the floor 9 holding his hand tho lol)...as we have wooden floors its not so easy to practise with him falling so we do thi on the bed..crawling is one thing but its totally diff ball game when they start walking!! It will be chaos! Fun tho lol! no pm nap today for theo bloody neighbours alarm going off rebecca i have never heard of abdominal migranes- what is it? When head tells tummy its in pain kinda thing??? He will be fine hon x x

Wel wen i tuk him to the docs he sed that its like wen u get a head migrane but the migrane is in the stomach, so this results in him being sick its awful i hate it wen kids are sick, especially wen they are 4 n a half so really understand it its not nice. William has really found his voice i mean he has always made noises but this week he seems to want to hear it all the more haha. xx

How exciting that William is crawling! (and what a nightmare too I guess). We sort of do Gina Ford Eva, in that I try to get him to have a morning nap and then a bigger sleep at lunch. The morning nap is a bit hit and miss, but he will always sleep later especially if out in buggy or car. Like Theo he will also have a nap later in the afternoon but only if in car. Haven't ever tried putting him down at this time for a nap. I still go to baby groups around lunchtime as even if he doesn't sleep over lunch time he'll always catch up later. I was v concerned about him sleeping (or not) at nursery and he starts in a couple of weeks, but when I spoke to them recently they said not to worry. They'll do whatever it takes and after a while they all tend to fall into a similar sleep/eating pattern anyway. We're still trying to teach him to fall asleep without being fed or rocked etc and after a dodgy weeks last week(teeth!) were back on track this week. This morning I put him down, walked out, he wailed for about 2 seconds and I haven't heard him since which has to be a record! I really think that the bumper has helped as he doesn't get his arms trapped now. At last it's sunny here today!

Hi Everyone, There's so much to catch up on and not had time to read it but I'll fill you in on us and go from there. We went away on 27th July to Wales and upto Wednesday was lovely then it started to rain and rain and rain so we decided to come home friday instead of Saturday. WE got to England and weather went from 16 degrees to 28 degrees and then we got stuck on the M42 so a 3.5hour journey took 6 hours 20mins!!!! Children were very good though. When we got home I went to pick up our new puppies - Lynny and Tuv (off of the wonderpets.) Now our family has gone from 2 adults and 2 children to 2 puppies too. They are gorgeous and so far behaving really well. Whilst we were away Macie started crawling (still falling onto her belly) but definietly getting around and sitting alone for a lot longer too. Now we have been back 2 weeks and she has got it off to a fine art - she emptied the basket of ironing I had done, puller the phone wire on the wall and then tried to get into the dishwasher. AS she is so young she is having to learn No where as our son rolled at this age and didn't do other moving till 11.5months old, he seemed to understand a lot more. Then he said the other day at shopping, Mum Macie is pulling my hair and I told him not to be mardy then felt awful as she had the biggest clump of hair in her hand. I felt so bad. Then on Wednesday I turned around and Macie was stood at the settee!!! Shit, that was scary and now she tries to pull herself up at everything. What do you do about this???? She is still a baby and not 7 months till next week. Things and time seem to fly by. It's unreal. Anyway, enough about me. Just got wife swap in the back ground - what a twat - he says he is God and looks down on them and also that he doesn't work but it's his wifes job to run the house, look after the children do nappies, bath time etc etc etc and they don't go out as you can find all info online. DIVORCE is all I can say on that front!!!! Kimxxx
