Hi, I'm looking to buy a stroller for my 9 month old son. We have a mama's and papa's 3 wheeler and although I love it, it's very heavy to lift in and out of the car. I'm looking for something that is lightweight, space saving and practical. I like the look of the Quinny Zapp but I'm not sure how practical it is as it doesn't recline, can anyone recommend a good stroller?

Hi Amanda. We bought a Maclaren Triumph, which is veryn light, folds up small, and easy to carry around. We also have an Ingelsina travel system, which is good, but the Maclaren is just so light and practical that I can't recommend it highly enough. I haven't tried others, so can't compare, but am very pleased with it.

Let us know what you end up going for.

Thanks Daddyo, I have looked at the Maclarens but didn't know anyone who has used one, so I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the quick response :)

Nice to see another new face Amanda.

Another thumbs up for Maclaren from me, but this time for the Techno XT. It's great if you want a really different animal to a three-wheeler, which we did as the urban detour one we have is quite bulky.

It's VERY lightweight and compact and seating is adjustable, and seems very comfy. It's a doddle to use and I find it really useful. good brakes, nice styling. It's great. I've got the 2004 model.

the one thing I would say is that it really is light and there's not much storage space, so you might want to invest in buggy weights if you plan to hang things of the handles.

The other thing is the price, it's quite a bit more than the Triumph as far as I know. But if you're in the market for a Zapp it's a broadly similar price.

I was also interested in the Zapp because a friend has one and loves it to bits, and it looks lovely. In the end it was the seat issue that made up my mind. The XT just had more flexibility to it.

I've also heard good things from friends about a Zooper stroller, but not sure what model, sorry.

Good luck deciding.

Amanda - another thing, you can feel some confidence (or at least we did) from the rows and rows of Maclarens at our local swings. It seemed that everyone in the area had one, so I figured that many people can't be wrong!

Thanks Tia and Daddyo I really appreciate your views, I think I'll definately be looking at the Maclarens - can I just say that I wish I'd found this forum sooner. I've just been reading through some of the other topics and it's a great help.

I would definately agree with Daddyo and Tia - the Maclarens have my vote- If we could afford an 'in-between' stroller, that would be the one we chose!

It just seems to do it all, comfy for baby with reclining features, practical for mum with shopping tray and a sun hood! Whilst being easy to collapse and lightweight- perfect for a trip to the shops - either by car or (in my case) public transport!

But have a shop around, Any reputable stroller retailer will be happy to let you wheel a display model about (I even loaded Jake and the changing bag into a couple of models!) - and show you how to collapse it etc etc.

Thanks mummyGoth - I think it's definately a Maclaren then. I must admit I'm a bit of a ebay fan so I'll be watching out for some good deals. Many thanks all for your help :)

I've had 2 Maclarens and you just can't beat them. My first was a Vogue 2003 (I think a limited edition because I can't find them anywhere now) and I'm now using a Maclaren Quest, which Pip loves. He always opts for the Quest over his big pushchair/travel system(unless I let him sit in the shopping basket! - strange child!) and our mothercare jive. Everyone seems to have a Maclaren because they are "the" buggy. Maclaren actually invented the umbrella stroller so they know their stuff! They're reliable, lightweight and most importantly, easy. I'd opt for a Maclaren every time.

maclaren here as well, there light weight and build to last unlike some of the cheaper competition

and ours has a shoulder strap, which is handier than you think.

Hi Guys

Just a quick update to let you know that I am now a proud owner of a Maclaren Techno XT and it's fab. Never one for rushing into things we had a good look around before opting for this model.

I would like to thank you all for your advice as I don't think I would have looked at the Maclarens if you all hadn't rated them so highly.

I got a really good deal on the net from a company called Two Left Feet - they offer free delivery as well as discounted prices, highly recommend. Thanks again xxxx

Amanda - what's the main difference between the Techno XT and the Triumph, for example? Why did you go for that model? Also, be sure to write a user review so other users of this site can see what you think of it...

hi daddyo i have the triumph and the main differences are that the triumph is from 3 months triumph from birth xt much bigger height wise so is longer triumph great for us as i only have a focus so lots of room for shopping ect and about 70 odd pounds difference in the price look at glasgow pram centre sale on at moment is this for a new born if so i have just purchased the new graco mosaic travel system for 159.00 this is a stroller also

Hi Daddyo, the main differences between the Techno XT and most of the other Macs are that the XT is a from birth stroller (others are from 3 months), the XT has all-round suspension (brilliant for newborns who don't like to be bounced around too much or for off-roading), it has adjustable handles to suit the parents' height differences and a sun visor to protect baby's delicate eyes. The Triumph, as you mention, is a basic buggy - no suspension or added extras.
Has anyone checked out babys-mart.co.uk. There are some brilliant offers at the mo.

I also have the XT - it is fab ! i love it best buggy every - i got it for my first daugther when she was 2.5 after having 3 other buggies - Graco mirage ( wheel snapped off not the buggy fault got shoved into the car with too much luggage , Experdition  ( not bad no swivel wheel though an wanted to swap for a stroller )an Bruin zoot ( which got lost at manchester airport thanks to baggae handlers)- all of which were fine but the maclaren is def the best an am now using it for my new baby 3 months old and she seems to love it to !
