Hi everyone. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and know that it won't be all that long before I need a pillow for support to help me sleep. Did anyone invest in a special pregnancy pillow, and if so, was it worth it? Or will a bog-standard pillow do just as well?

I found a bog standard pillow worked just as well!

But- saying that, I found whilst I was breastfeeding in the first few weeks, the 'V' pillow I had was perfect- and I've been told they're great for pregnancy support too.

You can get them from John Lewis- and they're called - The Big V - I love mine now!
So maybe it's worth the money?

Hmm, not been terribly helpful- but certainly a normal pillow will be fine!

I got the grobag pillow and it's really helping me. I got big quite early and have already been using it for a few weeks.

If you're going to likely invest in a nursing pillow anyway I'd say go for it now and get the extra use out of it. If you go for one with a machine washable cover you might be able to sell it on later anyway.

I used the big V like Mummygoth, it was a life saver in the last trimester. I'd tried using several pillows but just didn't get enough support from them. I say get one.

Thanks for the ideas girls, I think I will get a pillow soon then. I've looked at both the ones you've suggested online and can't seem much of a difference except that the grobag is made of 'pearls' and the V is made of beans.
Has anyone got an opinion on which is better? It's not too far out of my way to pop by John Lewis anyway, so I might just go and cop a feel.

hi - i bought a body pillow from Made in water, it has natural fillings and was helpful at the end of my pregnancy. Now i'm using it to breasfeed my baby. it costs 39.90. I'll try to add this product on the site

Hi Barb I just used a standard pillow and it seemed to do the trick

I bought a double sided pregnancy pillow from Blooming Marvellous and it's brilliant. It works which ever side you sleep on.

I used a v pillow (from dunelm), and found it invaluable. I use mine all the time. When my daughter was first born I use mine to support her whilst feeding so I could do other things (like actually drink a cup of tea while it was still hot!!) I found it freed up my arms more. As she got older it supported her while she was trying to sit up. Now shes nearly three and loves having it in my bed while she watches milkshake.

Yep I agree! I got a V pillow from Mother care and used it all through my last pregnancy and it was great when breast feeding, and to support my baby when she was learning to sit up. I have just got it out agaon for this pregnancy!

i bought a pillow from mothercare a proper bump cushion for £9.99 and it wasnt worth the money. i sold it on ebay and bought 2 v neck pillows. you can get them from argos for £5 cheaper than anywhere else and much more useful than a proper bump cushion.

I didn't use a pillow when I was pregnant but found a Widgy cushion fabulous for the early weeks of breast-feeding. A bit expensive but worth every penny. It's much firmer than all other pillows I've used/felt.

You should try the Dream Genii pillow - it's got a leg support too! and it doubles up as a feeding pillow afterwards! I could'nt have surived without it...
