hi ladies,

why not try something that fits your toilet, that way the child see's you going on it so may sway them into doing the same

sorry if it doesn't help

Hiya all,
I found with my now 9 year old is to find the right time. If your child is dry after his afternoon nap it may be the right time to try potty training.
With Ryan i waited for the warmer weather and brought him special pants with super heroes on!
I had a potty available and several times during the day i would sit him on the potty, the rest of the time he ran round with his super heroes pants on. When he went to the loo on the potty we all clapped our hands and gave lots of praise and Ryan had a sticker. If he wet himself - we didn't make a fuss, just changed into some clean pants and we were on our way again. We also had a seat for the toilet as Ryan seemed to prefer to go on the big toilet - he also used to watch his Dad having a pee in the big toilet!
If we went out at first, I used the pull ups pants and encouraged him to go after a meal or drink.
All of this culminated with Ryan being dry after only one week during the day - i think this was because we waited, didn't get stressed about it and used lots of praise, rewards (stickers etc)
I will use the same thing with my 6 month old daughter, Tara but am not going to get stressed if she doesn't get it as well as Ryan - after all our babies are different. Good luck!

theres some good advice there, dont get stressed, children become readdy to toilet train at different ages so just be patient.

We went with a seat that you fit over the toilet seat from the start rather than a potty, it also meant we didnt have to lug a potty around with us when we were out and he could go to the toilet wherever we were.

Would agree that something that fits on toilet is better than a seperate potty. That way you kill 2 birds with one stone, in that you dont have to train him to use the proper toilet after he outgrws the potty.
My sister encouraged my niece to learn by buying her special toilet paper, with pitures on.

Can it be too early to potty train? My sons 17 months but he knows when hes done something because he tells me when he wants his bum changing straight away. Hes only just started walking though and Im unsure if hes still too young to understand the whole potty thing! I dont want to stress him out or frighten him.
