How many people are doing abbay signing with their baby? I did Sing and Sign with my son and I am amazed how much confidence it gave him to communicate. His vocabulary at age 2 was wondeful and at age 4 he is reading! I'm sure baby signing has really helped with this. Anyone else doing it. www.singandsign.com has the info.

Hi Both Have reviewed a Sign and Smile CD-Rom which you can do at home if you can't find a group near you. It's good to start at about six months or so but you can start later if that's not possible. Review going up tomorrow!

The Sing and Sign DVD is reviewed on this site too. It's great that the benefits of Baby Signing are ecoming more recognised now.

The Sing and Sign DVD's have been an invaluble resource for me and my son to learn baby signing...The songs are catchy and not irritating in anyway..like some baby tapes/cd's can be!! The educational content has been carefully thought out....I took my little boy to Sing and Sign classes from the age of 6 months by 12 months he had begun signing back, and a few months later he was a super signer, using 60 or so signs to talk to us with!!He is 27 months now and the Stage 2 class and DVD has been fantastic in helping him learn the signs for the alphabet...he can do the whole alphabet and say the phonetics too....His speech is very advanced compared to his non-signing pals, and so are other areas of his development...I can't recommend using baby signing enough..It really is worthwhile and FUN too.

Hi I'm new here and interested in this thread as I've been signing with my third daughter over the last year and have had such fun with it and great results. Even my husband is in to it now and seems to be taking more of an interest in interacting with her at an earlier age than he did with the other two! I caught him boasting on the phone the other day to a friend about how many signs she could do! Her fist sign was at 9months 'nappy', to tell me that she had just filled it, lovely! After 2 weeks she was using 6 different signs in context and now at 13 months she is using about 26 signs regularly . As I type she is banging on the patio window shouting and signing bird as there is a big fat pigeon in the garden. We have been going to Tinytalk classes as they are great fun and much more motivating than going it alone. Give it a go there's nothing really to lose.

I've just been watching the Tinytalk Baby Signing DVD, its great. All the signs are BSL thereofore useful to know incase you need to communicate with one of the 70,000 Deaf people in the UK ;-)

I was in my local M & S a few months ago and the cashier was wearing a badge showing she was hearing impaired and used BSL. My daughters and I were able to sign 'thank-you' for our change. Her face lit up and she signed to my daughter that she was 'fantastic', my daughter was thrilled and it was all thanks to learning signing with my baby at Tinytalk classes!

I go to TinyTalk classes too with my son David, And I've just found out i'm pregnant, so I'll be going in Jan 08 with my toddler and a 3mth baby ha ha ha. I asked the teacher if she does special discounts for the second child and she said, yes, Its Free!! you pay per family, not per child! "well if that’s not value for money I dont know what is!" I said. David understood the sign for milk at 4 months. His arms and legs would no nuts and he would 'root' just like he did when I showed him the breast or the bottle. I knew a few signs before I fell pregnant with him so I taught him from birth. At six months his motor skills kicked in a bit and he signed it back to me. proud mummy moment! Now he can ask for things from my deaf friend, and they can converse, albeit very simple words! I agree with D.Poonawala, going to classes even if you can sign, is much better than going it alone. I've made so many friends too.

Don't you wish more classes did pay per family rather than per child. I've got 3 children and their activities cost me a fortune!! Well done Tinytalk

Sing and Sign Classes actually allow siblings, twins and triplets attend their classes for free! As they know how difficult it is for childcare to be arranged!

I'd just like to say that if you have the Sign & Smile DVD I was contacted during the making and all the Signing Babies are from my Sing & Sign classes.

can i just say its great to see so many parents taking an interest in signing. I;m a paediatric speech and languagetherapist and also have an 8 week old baby. i've started signing with her already as you've all found its invaluable in helping your wee ones communicate with you and helps reduse so much frustration for them.
Makaton is another resourse for signing - don't know the addres but is searchable on the web i;m sure.

Havnt looked for a class yet as im only 18 wks preg, but signing is something id definitely be interested in teaching my baby. From your posts it seems like a great way to encourage development. Also, as my mother is disabled (not saying deafness is disability), I have first hand experience of how people can be discriminated against and feel shut out. I want my child to be able to communicate with anybody and everybody they meet

You may find that if you have BSL in the Family you may want to go to a class that teaches BSL signs. Have a look to see if there is a class near you. As I think I said before somewhere else on here TinyTalk are always asking for more teachers, because my Teacher is always banging on about it. People as asking her to run classes for them but she can't always get to places and be back for the childminder. My TinyTalk Teacher is pregnant at the moment too. She said last week that 1 in 5 teachers are pregnant or have just had a baby. Some teachers train whilest they are pregnant ready to start after they have had baby. Cirtainly gives you something to think about if there is not a class near you.
