help! we had finally made up our mind to purchase the quinny buzz pushchair and the car seat to match, as it states that it is suitable from birth.

whilst in mothercare today i have been told that i also need the carrycot as it is not suitable to keep the baby in the carseat whilst out and about for any lenght of time! and that the pushchair part is only suitable from 6 months onwards as the baby is unable to lie flat.

can anyone give me advice on this, do i really need to buy all the equipment if i want to use it with a newborn?

apart from all the space it will take up in the house and the car, for carrycot, car seat and pushchair part, particulary when i can't use the puschair part until the baby is 6 months! seems a bit of a con for extra expenses £559.97.... plus when i was looking last week the buzz was ranging from £249.99 upwards, now because the new model is out, it is starting at £329.99

i was then considering the Maui 2-in-1 pushchair & carry cot package - Red Flame £249.99 & car seat £79.99, which seems pratical and is much more reasonibly priced. any suggestions would be much appreciated as i havent much time left.

thought it would be easy to choose a pram, how wrong i was! lol ......

many thanks
mags

Hi Mags,

Thanks for your post - I think that the sales person in Mothercare was correct - it isn't advisable to leave your baby in the car seat for too long as it isn't good for her back and it is preferable to lie a newborn flat in a pushchair so the carrycot would be useful for that reason.

I have attached our guide to travel systems above - I hope this helps!

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

i also had the same quandry a few weeks ago. We eventualy decided that we would purchase the carry cot to go with the Quinny however i am using this instead of a moses basket during day time naps etc in the house to double the usage and get my moneys worth. The many sales assistants i have spoken to have said that the car seat etc is fine up to about 2 hours, the pushchair is about the same for a newborn, however the pushchair can be made 'almost flat' and teherfore can be used on trip slightly longer.
whatever you decide - good luck
by the way there are many websites that will offer the quinny (pushchair/carry cot/maxi cosi car seat/foot muff package) for about £350-400 now

Hi All,

We've got the Mamas and Papas Pramette. It's the A3 Chassis but that just means it's got a bar to push instead of two handles and folds slightly differently. I had a Pliko with my younger daugher and they were great. The Pramette is suitable from birth because the buggy converts into almost a carrycot - the pram lays completely flat and you can have baby facing you for the first few months. After which it converts into a normal pushchair. The good thing is that you don't have to buy any special fittings either. You can have the carseat which fits in the chassis, but it's optional.

I would recommend these pushchairs to anyone. Even the older model Pliko's laid flat enough for a newborn to be placed safetly in them. The pramette design is even better though!

I would recommend getting the carry cot for the Quinny Buzz as the seat is only suitable as you say from 6 months and after having three children i would definetly say that a carrycot is more suitable than a car seat. The car seat is fine if you are only making short trips, but because a newborns spine is very delicate and fragile it is better for them to be laid flat rather than bunched up into a car seat. I used the quinny buzz when my son was 6 months and only then did he really seem big enough and comfortable to be using this seat. I have also used britax, mamas and papas and mutsy pushchairs (am a pramoholic and like to try new pushchairs!!) but for getting a system into a car i possibly think the buzz is the almost perfect system and there are some excellent deals on at the moment because of the new colours out.

Hey... I am really fed up with this Pram-madness. My wife has worked with kid around 10years and she is now studying to be Children therapist... so she really knows what she talks about.

So she gave me mission to find a 2 in one system that first servers as normal base for lying baby and after that when the baby is big enought to sit up - the system should be one that faces you - not forward.

I was really skeptic about this since most manufacturers here in UK make only systems that works in a way that when you transform them to seated prams the kid will face forward... would imagine that they have done their research - but no - did my own research and found this one:

http://www.int.iol.co.za/index.php?art_id=vn20070224121335192C832327

So it really can be harmful (may affect on speech and social skills... and the baby feels more secure watching you anyway...) to face your baby too early forwars... so thats why I am now looking into that Motherscare Maui system - usually the ones that your can turn facing you cost more but this one seems to be reasonable... anyone has experience on Mothers Cares products? It has 12month quarantie and costs "only" 299...

...Anyways... did not mean to write anything here but thought that it might interest someone. So Face your baby towards you not the hectic trafic and world...at least for first 6months maybe even until 1year old... after the baby gets tired looking you and wants to see all the wonders of the world outside :D

SO MESSAGE TO MANUFACTURERS:: PLEASE DO MORE SYSTEMS THAT WORK IN WAY THAT YOU CAN FACE SITTING BABY IN BOTH WAYS - NOT JUST FORWARD!

Please lay your baby flat!!!!!
Yes Im a big believer of that..I studied Nursery Nursing and new born babies need to be lying on their backs flat!!

Sticking them in these travel systems is not only awful to see,but could seriously affect your babies development.Im sorry to seem so harse on the matter, but I am also aware of actual studies, which have reported babies laying in car seats for longer than completly necessary is a health concern,it can not only damage their spine development, but also could affect their lungs, due to not laying flat.I have a hauck infinity prampushchair, and love my baby in his pram, where I know he is safe and secure and laying correctly. He is going ito is pushchair now,and hes 5 months,so hes better at supporting his head alittle now,and obviously he is quite alert and likes looking around him now,so Im sure he will love being in it.Please keep your babies in the right positions, until they are able to sit up a little by themselves.Keep your eyes open for bargains, and dont always pay the first price you see on a pram....some of them are redicuously priced, and not all worth the money really. But I find my hauck is good value for money,we payed under £300 for it,and its an excellent product.Id recommend one to anybody!!!

Hi All,

I've been looking into which system to buy that will a) reduce how many different things we have to buy and b) be most suitable for our coming baby... The Sleepover by Silver Cross seems to be a really good bet - it's quite big, but actually they all seem to be (the classic chassis does fit in our small boot though). It's more like a traditional pram which lies flat (and also comes with a stand so you can use the carry cot as a moses basket) but ultimately turns into a pushchair taking up to 20kg. And in response to Christopher Columbus's post, the pushchair can be forward or rear facing, so it seems to fit the bill there too.

The more I read around the subject, the more perfect this system seems to be!

Hi, I'm due 1st August. We have brought a Jane Slalom Pro with the Matrix car seat. It is a fantastic pram where the baby can lie completly flat. The car seat also converts into a carry cot, so the baby can lie completly flat, which clicks onto the chasis. The car seat also fits into the car whilst in the lie flat position which is great on long journey's as baby will be in a better position and more comftable. The carry cot is rear facing on the chasis and once the baby is able to sit unaided it can go into the forward facing pushchair. There are many internet sites with this system. After checking the pram and car seat out at local baby shop, we brought the system brand new from a shop on e-bay called little ones, the sellers id is 4bump. By doing this we saved ourseleves nearly £200!. It arrived the next day with no problems.

Hi guys,

We purchased an urban detour pram pushchair 3 wheeler system.  Looks fab, is great as it has the car seat, and pram part which you can have facing to you or the other way.  It also has big wheels.  The problem is that if you do more than an easy walk, it begins to shake which comes from the front wheel.  The faster you go, the more it shakes.  It becomes dangerous.  It has been back twice and had a new frame and no success.  So it is going back!  Has anyone else had this experience.

Look forward to hearing from anyone.

 Pauline

Bit late for the originator of this thread but...  We ended up going for the Stokke Xplory.  It may not be as compact as some of the other pram systems out there but I've absolutely loved it - 7 months in and the fact that it's not the smallest out there still doesn't bother me.  We're onto the pushchair part, having used the carrycot as a moses basket as well as pram, and I love having our baby facing me when I'm out and about - she's also lovely and close due to the height of the system - would definitely recommend this one!

I am going to get the carrycot with the next one, I love the fact that the newborn can lay flat and I will also use it for them to have their naps in during the day as I will be doing the school run when they baby will nap so at least they can be comfy and I don't have to worry about waking them.

Check out online websites as they usually have them alot cheaper and good packages!
