Been off visiting my mum so havent posted... a very proud nanny she is too! 6hrs in the car though which wasnt so good!
Kimberley- Ruqaiyyah always has her arms and legs all over the place and I was beginning to wonder if it was just her! she always has a bemused look on her face as if to say "what are they doing" usually get a good smile at the same time so its almost like excitement" As for the farting... not only are they loud, they also smell so bad I keep checking her nappy! She seems to save it up for me and then overfills it! and even adds to it while im in the middle of changing, nothing like a lady lol
Laura- Hope everything went well today, as everyone has said she is in the best hands possible and Im sure will be well on her way home shortly. as for being pants at growing a baby.... she is beautiful and these things will hopefully be all sorted soon.
Rachel- cant say Im missing work at all! Mind you I work in estate agency and loads of redundancies being made so Im better off out of it
anyway just a shprt post to check in, my beautiful daughter is asleep so Omoff to make the most of it...... still feeding every 2 hrs ish through the night so any chance I get lol
Laura hope all went well yesterday with Ava's procedure.
I am taking Esmee to an osteopath on Friday. I went yesterday and they said they would look at her to see if all is ok with her suffering with colic. She is also VERY sensitive on her back in certain areas and the osteo said that they whip them out so quickly in a CS that the babies often suffer with their backs etc afterwards.
Got to be worth a go I hate seeing her in so much pain.
Caroline the nappy thing happens to me as well.
HV is due today to weigh and measure Esmee. She is late though.
Had better go.
chat soon.
Kimberley and just well... seems to be always miserable Esmee. I hope the Osteo works.
(does anyone else think their babies don't seem very happy??)
I have popped over from the August thread - like keeping an eye on what you guys are up to!!
Kimberley, I look forward to hearing how the osteopath goes on Friday - is it a cranial one or a 'normal' one? I had baby Jai two and a half weeks ago (three days in labour followed by an emergency section) and he really doesn't like being on his back at all. He also appears to be colicy as keeps having tummy pains, poor wee soul. I wonder if taking him to see an osteopath might be a good idea? I worry that he doesn't seem very happy a lot of the time as well - wee buggers for worrying us aren't they!! On the plus side, when I get a smile (or he has a nap!) it makes it all worth it!
Laura honey, thinking about you and baby Ava. We have all been keeping an eye on her progress and send loads of love and hugs to you and your family.
She, I will keep you all posted. I am a great believer in alternative therapies and I think there has got to be something in it. I am going to a normal one as I think her head is pretty much OK with not being pushed out.
Well, my baby is just gaining soooo much weight.. She is now 10lb 15oz. Almost 1lb gained in 2 weeks and she is 7cm longer than when she was born so 57cm long.
Can't believe how much and fast she is growing at only 6 weeks old.
hi sorry dont post much but always keep up with you all.
Kimberley my baby oliver is just a week older than your Esmee i am also breastfeeding oliver was 11lb 4oz last week so he is a big boy. i seem to be feeding constantly every 2 hours for up to an hour and he sleeps very litle during the day. How often do you feed? and do you have any sort of routine. I bottle fed my oldest son so i feel like a first time mum again.
Kimberley- we seem to have happy days and very miserable days... and then just whiny ones! I just find it frustrating because I think something is wrong but cant ever find it!! Today is a happy day so far!
I took her to the doctors the other day, like a paranoid mum! she had a mucky eye for about 3 days which looked like conjunctivitus and a rash all over her head and face. The eye is due to the tear ducts not yet being formed and has now totally cleared and the rash is apparently sweat rash... looks awful and loads of little spots all over her face and head. Doctor said to put baby lotion on it but I think the perfume in it would make it worse so Im waiting to see what the health visitor says.
Still perservering with breastfeeding but still finding it hard, also she has taken to latching on well and then after a bit she sighs, releases a bit then clamps back down.. OUCH. Thank god for Lanisoh cream!
Also Sainsburys has 1/3 off all baby stuff including all brands of nappies, toiletries etc... It did have yesterday anyway as I stocked up on the lanisoh and a few bits. Right off to have a bath while shes asleep !
Its so quiet on here, where have all the mummies gone?
Hi Ni.. Sometime she goes 2 or 3 hours between feeds and then I seem to feed every hour. She has been feeding on and off now since 3pm so I guess she is a bit hungry. We also get a LOT of pooey nappies, but she is still putting weight on so I am not too concerned. I am not sure that we have a any kind of routine at all, but she does seem to feed and sleep at the same times, roughly.
We are having a bit of a miserable day today with crying it seems for no real reason. Caroline, Esmee had a bad rash on her face and head last week and now it is her chest with what looks like tiny little septic spots, but I know it will clear up. I think I am going to try to avoid fabric softner on the next wash and see what happens. I put it down to Heat rash or milk rash!..
Had my 6 week check this morning.. Doc just asked how I was and that was it. Did the PND questionnaire yesterday with the HV but it was only about 8 questions. He checked my scar which has still not fully healed, he said it is healing but slowly and he has given me more antibiotics "just to be on the safe side".. He was well impressed with Esmee, checked her eyes HB twice and her hips... I came out with prescriptions for AB, steri strips for the wound and Pessaries for thrush which I got after the last lot of AB... So will save them for when I finish this course. I wonder how they will affect Esmee again!.
Well Caroline, you are right it is SOOOOO quiet on her. I hope all mummies and babies are OK.
I think either everyone, is out and about having a whale of a time with their babies or up to their eyeballs in pooey nappies and bottles!
I still have no routine, although we have succeeded in the bath, bed routine and we now get to eat dinner in peace or if she hasnt had a bath by then, she happily lays on her activity mat and looks at anything other than the mat itself. In fact it could be an old door mat for all she cares!
We have also had an offer agreed on a house today so hopefully I will soon have space to have a cot.... hoping its before I have to cut leg holes in the moses basket!!
Has anybody started going to any baby groups or massage etc... Im keen to go after her check and I want to go swimming as well but wondered what experience people have.
I heard from Laura yesterday - Ava had her op on Tuesday, & apparently, her eyes are looking clearer already. Laura herself is having a D&C today to try & sort out her infection as she's still poorly - but they're otherwise ok, & still in Birmingham.
Well, what an eventful 48 hours I've had - woke up on Wednesday, felt rough, had a cup of tea, then all hell broke loose - had horrendous D&V, to the point of sitting on the loo with a bucket as didn't know which end was going to explode - sorry - TMI!!. Mum had to leave work & come over, then dad came, as Tim away in Devon working, & mum stayed the night to look after Abi for me. Had to get Dr out to do a home visit as felt so ill, but it started to settle on wednesday evening, & had stopped yesterday, apart from the horrific pain from all the vomiting. Tim came home last night, & I took myself to bed about 10pm with 2 paracetamol & 2 codeine, & now feeling MUCH better.
Abi was put on medicine for oral thrush last week - still got it, also has a temperature, so she's just had some calpol, also looks like she's cutting her 1st tooth. She's quite bunged up in the nose as well, so could all be due to teething, or could be a cold. She's not fed well for a couple of days, so have had her on 3 hourly feeds again in the daytime to try & make sure she's getting enough, but bless her, despite having a temp of 38.2 an hour ago, she was all smiles & fed really well, so going to see how she gets on with next feed, & decide whether to take her to the dr's as it's almost the weekend.
So all in all a rubbish couple of days. will try to catch up with posts at a more decent hour!!
Sorry no recent posts. I have been up to my eyeballs in baby stuff!!!
Had a rough couple of days as Connor has refused to sleep - ever! Its worse during the day where he just will not settle for a nap, which means he gets overtired and really irritable. Then by the evening he is a nightmare to put down. We had to resort to a whole evening of cuddling him to sleep as he just would not be put down. He's also getting worse at night. He used to be so easy to feed, put back in the moses and he would go back to sleep quickly, now he just won't sleep! So am absolutely shattered with only ever a max of 2 hours sleep in one sitting. They say things are supposed to get better around now but if I'm honest its worse!!!
We actually let his nanny look after him last night so the OH and I could have dinner and a whole nights sleep. I feel like a new woman!!! Have to go pick him up in a bit. I did miss him terribly and woke up in extremely wet bed sheets from where my boobs leaked all night (through pads and bra!!!) as they were obviously missing him too - lol!!!
How is everyone coping with the Breastfeeding? I've got this feeling that when I'm really tired I just don;t have enough for connor as he gets really irritable and starts crying whilst on the breast and ripping himself off and back on again as he just isn't getting any. I really want to persevere but don't want to deprive him of food/ I have had to give him formula a couple of times because I just didn't have any. Maybe now I've had some sleep and time to rejuvinate, my milk will come back in full force! I did express this morning and got 4oz but connor will easily take a 5ox formula bottle. Is a bit worrying.
Amanda - so sorry you've not been well. Hope all is OK albeit a very early post!!!
Caroline - am regretting trying routines now. Connor did so well in one and now he's resisting it that I don't know how to do anything else! So am continuing with the routine but with a grizzly baby. Maybe I should have started slowly, like with bedtime routine and then introduce a day one later after connor could establish one himself.
Also had my 6 week check. All ok with me but connor does have to see a peaditrition. Its because he's had some severe hair loss, plus he has asymmetrical hips and a dimple in his anul area which could be a spinal problem! With that and his cranial appointments, no wonder he always grizzly!!!
He has been giving me the biggest smiles recently though which makes up for the lack of sleep and crying.
Oops, best be off got to go pick my little man up!
Hi all. I know i'm a bit hit and miss with posting now. I do try to keep up with you all!
Laura - I'm thinking about you and little one. I do hope things are going ok. (FYI - I work in BCH on ward 14, if you need to know anything or want a chat/rant etc...just say. I'm up on Ward 8 quite alot (I assume thats where you have been?!) so feel free to get in contact. I'm sure you have loads of people around you though. Just a thought.)
Am glad to see everyone now has their babies. Abi is really doing well. 8 weeks old now.11lbs 4oz yesterday. Sleeping through. Babbling, cooing, chuckling. (Only poo's once a day, or every other day but have got use to that. Its just the way her bowel works!) Started to get christmas pressies in (only 16 weeks ladies!!!!!) - got some lovely traditional style toys (shape sorter, xylophone, ring stacker....) all in wood (no crappy plastic!) from the kiddicare website. (Come christmas she'll be almost 6 months old, so the toys will be perfect!) Thought that was really organised of me!!!!!
Hope you're all well. T'is the season for coughs & colds. Great. (The problem with summer babies - they're old enough to suffer with nasty bugs over the winter period....and let us know about it!!!)
Sarah... Esmee does that with me and sometimes cries a lot during a feed. This is actually her colic as she often clamps down and then pulls off (which hurts) and screams but then will go straight back onto sucking furiously. Is Connor Suffering with Colic?? Classic signs screwed up fists, red face, moving arms and legs uncontrollably and then arching back??? Assuming you are eating and drinking enough? If you are then I don't think you will be running out of milk. I can only express about 4oz before it won't flow any more but When Esmee is latched on it never stops flowing! As I can still get milk out when I squeeze it just stops with the breast pump.
Hate to say but Esmee is now sleeping 6 - 6.5 hours ever night.. Goes down about 11pm and wakes up at 5.30 - 6am. So she seems to have settled into a good routine. She also is following the same sort of patterns every day.
We had a LOT of pooey nappies yesterday and today seems the same. (Might be all the garlic and the chili I had the other night LOL)
Amanda - Hope you are both feeling better soon, thanks for the update on Ava and Laura, I am glad Laura is having some treatment.. I am so pleased that Ava is doing well after the op.
Caroline - I go to baby massage and it is good. Also want to start Swimming soon, but we are going to Spain for a month soon so will star the swimming there if the pool seems warm enough. Can't wait to get out of this shitty weather. I really can't afford to put the heating on yet in this house so we are now all wearing more layers and Esmee has about 4 blankets on at night but will be in a 3.5tog bag tonight (only 16c in my bedroom).
Right had better go Got the Osteopath for Esmee at 12.30 will post later to say how it goes.
We all worry about the same things and thats why this sits is great! martha has been very colicky and pulling on and off breast and crying, got some colief and shes right as rain. we have no discernible routine tho and some nights she sleeps for 5 hous sometimes for 2! hey ho.
caroline, I took martha swimming yesterday ( shes 7 weeks) and although the water was cold, she loved it! screamed a bit when we first got in, but it was pretty chilly, then kicked and thrashed like a good un. she was zonked for hours after as well. we used to take Caitlin swimming on a sunday morning so she would fall asleep ad we could go shopping in peace!
I havent joined baby massage etc but have joined alocal baby group which is making me feel old as I am the oldest and only 2nd time mum so i am the voice of experience. It nice tho, telling them what not to buy and where to go for bargains!
Love to laura, hope you are all ok soon.
this weather is crap! I dont want autun yet, I want to go to the beach.
Kimberley - I don't think he has colic. Her certainly doesn't do the crying fit at night, but he does sometimes cry like you said... goes red, arches backbut thats usually when he then does a big poo or fart - lol!!! Youer prob right about the milk. I always seem to have stuff when squeeze it after Connor has been on, so am sure its all OK. I just think that he ends up sleeping on the breast and so doesn't take enough in at one feed.
Since I picked Connor up from his nans, he has been home and fed, sleep, fed, sleep. He NEVER sleeps. I have even just put him on the floor which is a guarenteed way to wake him and he is sparko on the floor!!!! He has an osteo appointment at 4 - I really hope he is good for this one as the last one he cried continuously!!!
Have decided the rtoutine following is RUBBISH. So vow to relax it today and just let him do what he wants (but keeping the bath/bed routine) and try put a routine in place that fits with him instead of forcing a routine he doesn't fit into on him.
hi all - i havent been on in a while either - but sounds like we are all going through similar stuff. sarah - i have the same problem with nikhita, she won't sleep!! there has been some improvement (she is now 4 weeks old) but still hard to settle her in the moses basket or cot- she needs lots of cuddles and hugs and the warmth of someone holding her. i've been lucky as have had mother-in-law help out for the first 2 weeks and my sister has been here for the past week. means i can get a shower/have some food etc and not have to constantly carry her around.
as for routines - we have stopped the demand feeding as we realised she could be comforted by rocking or walking around with her - before i just put her on the breast thinking she was hungry everytime she cried if she didnt need a nappy change. so now i feed her every 3 hours (sometimes it's 2.5hours) during the day, then she gets formula at about 10pm, then a breastfeed at 2/3am, then another bottle of formula at 6/7am. so OH can give her the bottlefeeds and i can get some sleep - except it does take a while to settle her so sometimes we're up holding or rocking her for hours. still - i am optimistic that there will be more improvements!!!
kimberley - good to hear that esmee is sleeping 6 hours at a stretch at night - WOW.
also find that taking her out for a walk in the pram really helps - she sleeps most of the way so i do this at lunchtime when she should be napping anyway. then home in time for her next feed.
re the pulling off the breast and crying when feeding - i have that with nikhita too, and it seems to be when i dont have a proper meal before feeding her. trying to have more snacks now, before a feed, even just a glass of milk or something.
ok got to go - time for next feed!! take care all.
afternoon girls,, ive not read the post's so im afraide this post is me me and again me....
ive have had the worse 2 day's since little keris has been born,, yesterday was bad but today is just pure fustration !!!,,
yesterday my little mr was quite sick,, fine in the morning but yesterday afternoon after his lunch time feed he done nothing but throw up,, wouldnt keep a single feed down i was getting stressed and worryed which i think keris picked up on coz he just wouldnt settle from 1pm till 9pm lastnight he slept till 6 ish thismorning but today he has done nothing but feed,, my other son was back at school today so we've been faffing about out thismorning to sort him out for school then ive needed to pick up my daughters uniform coz she starts next week,, i have done no house work what so ever today so my house is total bomb site which im not happy about coz i dunno where to start im now feeling very very tierd and just totaly wiped out,, i feel sick im that tierd!! just started cooking dinner so i think the kids are gonna have to have an early night because i cant take any more of today all i wanna do is have a nice hot bath and veg infront the tv lol fat chance right now but i only got a few hours left then all should be nice and quite,,, im just gonna get the house looking repectable for a min and deal with it properly tomorrow,,
keris has now gone sleep thank god,, hes just totaly burnt himself out.. what iam struggling with is the fact hes 12 weeks old tomorrow,,, 12 weeks old for god sake where the hell did that go?? i cant belave how big he is now, hes been tring to lift himself up to sit ect and i dont like,, although we've had a bad few days i want him to stay a baby forever !!
right im off for a much needed ciggy and check on dinner and sorting out my house !!
if im feeling abit more energized later ill pop back !
zoe hope you've had a break now. I know what you mean about having a house like a bombsite and feeling fed up, It willl get better tho. Who cares if the house is a tip? if the kids are fed and warm and feel loved thats all that matters. I also get upset about how fast martha is growing, she may be only 7 weeks but she's in 6 months clothes. I feel cheated that she's going to grow up quick. we took er swiming last week and she was standing, holding her weight in the water, she's so big it didnt even look too wierd! Caitlin was 9 months when she walked so Im sure she will be sooner. I know I'll be weaning her before 6 months, I'll be lucky to get to 4! I had a dream she was scoffing baby rice last night.
Had a funny/scary moment today when Caitlin came running into the kitchen in a panic saying, Martha's eating a smartie! She (caitlin) was crying and it turned out she's been teasing and 'pretending' Martha was eating it when it fell in her mouth. it was a mini one. I got my finger in and scooped it out but not before the little horror had sucked all the colour off it! I think she would have eaten it given the chance! Caitlin was distraught, she thought she had killed her!
A late one from me - Tim's home & doing the night feeds, so chance for me to catch up!!
Have posted info about a downing street petition - hope you'll sign!!
No news from Laura, but hoping that all is well - will let you all know when I hear from her again.
Re - getting into a routine - well, we were doing so well, then I got ill, then Abi got poorly, so all went out of the window for the time being.
Abi was given treatment for oral thrush on fri 29th aug - didn't really work, still had a coated tongue. As i mentioned, she had a high temp on Thursday night, which settled a bit with calpol, but she was still an unhappy baby - very very unlike her, so took her to the dr - who gave us another course of nystatin, & told us to persevere with the calpol for the temperature - she then statred to have really poor feeds & her temp went up to 38.7, so come 7pm on friday, decided to take her to A&E, who referred her to paeds - we were kept in overnight, her calpol dose was adjusted to her actual weight - now 8lb 11oz, & given nystatin cream for her bum - apparently, babies with thrush reinfect themselves, as thrush in babies generally goes through the whole gastrointestinal tract, so the hospital treat both ends - worth remembering if your babies have coated tongues several hours after feeding - demand treatment for both ends!! - we were given open access to them for 24 hours as well - well - her feeding's still off, so back on 3 hourly so she maintains her blood sugars, & she's got a runny bum & really snotty nose, so the cold & teething have really kicked in, but her temperature's more settled now - such a shame she's so unhappy though - she's such a happy contented baby. have given her a couple of half doses of calpol to help with the cold as advised, & we still get smile from her - & her gurgles & coo's are to die for.
Abi's settling in sessions at nursery were postponed last week as i was ill, & will be this week until she's better.
Other than that, had to go buy a new tumble dryer today as the old one was chewing stuff up - particularly the sleeves of Abi's stuff as they're so small - shows how knackered my old one was when the new one dried a whole load, including jeans in 90 minutes!!!
Helen - naughty caitlin - lol about the baby rice though - already got mine in!!
Well, it's now monday, which means Abi is 12 weeks today!!! - where has the time gone - back to college today - scary - last time I was there, I was pregnant!!!
Hope everyone is well..... this weather is soo pants at the moment! Its a mission to go anywhere without us all getting soaked , almost feel like a hermit!
Been a little busy although not sure where the time goes half the time! Met my friend in Doncaster so she could meet my daughter for the first time and yesterday was a big family dinner. 2 hr drive to doncaster and it rained the whole way. Ruqaiyyah slept the whole time and only stopped to feed her just before we got there in the corner of a tescos car park! Not quite managing anything public but im fine in a little corner somewhere!
She is now feeding about every 3 hrs instead of every 2 which is a relief! Im sure it will change again as soon as we have a growth spurt but its amazing how much more awake I feel after those extra undisturbed hours! She still has a horrendous rash all over her face , head and neck..... heat rash according to the doctor which has made me a bit paranoid about whether she is too hot or cold etc It looks awful but doesnt seem to be going, Im going to ask the health visitor tomorrow about it. I dont agree with the doctor about putting baby lotion on it, Im sure it will be too perfumed etc but hey what do I know!
sorry for selfish post, off to shower now shes asleep then a great trip to morrisons, which happens to be next to mothercare so might have to pay a visit. Mind you we are still being given loads of clothes so dont think we need any of those!
