Hello ladies,

Claire - don't worry a sweep does not hurt for everyone I was induced with my third child and had two sweeps and I didn't feel anything more than a little discomfort. By this stage all you want is it to be over. One thing I a my midwife on my last baby had me doing was going up and down stairs sideways (apparently it makes the baby more keen to go down the channel and make for an easier labour) not sure if it worked but I did this for hour upon hour and she arrived after just 45mins of labour.

hi everyone i don't want to sound stupid here but whats the different between a sweep and being induced or are they both the same thing Abbie 33 weeks x x

Abbie - a sweep is when they swirl your own juices (so to speek) around and when you are induced a gel is inserted and then swirled around. At least that is what I believe it to be. Jackie.x

With my second I'm sure that the use of my TENS machine did the trick, I was told (but don't know how true) thet it releases endorfins' which help to kick start things, it seamed to do the trick as I was 3cm buy the time I had my show, with no pain, It was also really usesfull during labour. I did end up having a good walk with the TENS on then went home and had a curry, and the contractions started that night.

Hi I am a week overdue and soooooo fed up, this is my second pregnancy and has been totally different from my first, i was thinking of the caster oil remedy or trying the pineapple one but was wondering if anyone could give me some advice first.  My midwife gave me a sweep yesterday and it was so painful i was only 1cm dilated and cervix still at the back.  I really thought i'd be early with this one but to no avail.  Any advice would be great thanks.

Hi i am 41+5 weeks pregnant with my third baby and i am fed up now.

I have tried, sex, pineapple, hot curry, hot baths, acupressure (just started that this week!) rasp leaf tea, long walks, nipple stimulation etc etc and had sweeps but nothing!

I was supposed to be induced today but wanted to go into labour naturally so i have put it off until tuesday hut i will have to have it then.

Anyone got any ideas? All my babeis have been late but i really feel this one is in there for the duration!

Sarah, this may sound crazy but try walking up and down your street with one foot on the curb and the other in the road (on a a quiet road oviously, dont want you get run over) This is meant to push the baby down and basically start you off. I tried it and the next day i delivered 17days early!! I was trying everthing and anything and a friend from this site suggested the above.

Good luck and if it doesn't work at least you'll be able to giggle at how daft you will probably look to your neighbours!!! hehe

Good luck
