Hi

I am currently 27 weeks pregnant with baby #2.  My first baby was born via emergency c-section after 12 hours of labour.  I got to 8cm dilated then went back to 0 and strated being sick and drifted in and out of conciousness.  I had my section under general anasthetic as my epidural wouldnt work quick enough for me to be awake.

I am really starting to panick about the birth now of this little one.  After my last attempt I vowed I would not have another child if I could have a csection and as I was told by my last midwife that I would be a definate section case next time around i didnt give it a thought.  I have now moved to a differnet area under a differnet health authority which just happens to have the lowest section rate for the whole country.

I have been reading loads of threads and info and most people seem to be the total opposite from me wanting a VBAC over everything - is there anyone out there desperate for a section and scared of having a VBAC due to a previous emergency section????

I have even looked a private hospitals but it can cost up to 10K just for the birth!!!

hiya julie , you sound like me 2 weeks ago i couldnt sleep or eat as i was so worried about vbac and wanted a section which i always vowed id never want another ...very strange !!

i had an emergency section as my sons hb was dropping (turned out he had undiagnosed edwards syndrome and i sadly lost him ).i was very low at the time after zak's birth obviously but also got readmitted with an infection and was in such agony ..worse than any labour!and even 6 months after i was left very week so why did i want another section ? hormones most prob !!

i had an appointment with an anethsetist 2 weeks ago and i broke down telling him how i felt and i didnt want a vbac (even with 3 normal deliveries behind me !). he told me that a section was much more riskier than vbac and talked me through it all .he has arranged that i am to have an epidural as soon as i am in established labour so they have time to get it to work properly and so i have less pain as i will be stressed out of my head! this way if a section is needed its all set up and they can easily top me up.
my main worry is about rupture but they say they will really watch me so for now im ok but who knows ??!!

try and have a word with your mw and explain how stressed you are, i'm glad i told someone now as its hard with all these thoughts and hormones rushing about .

how old is your other child?
take care

Hi Amanda

Thanks for you reply.  I am so sorry to hear about your loss and my heart goes out to you from one mum to another x My little boy will be 4 next week so I have had plenty of time to recover from his birth.

My problem is that my last section was a breeze and that I recovered from that better than most of the ladies on the ward that had a natural birth.  I am also so scared of what will happen if I do have to have another emergency as I have heard lots of awful stories regarding the hospital that i am due to give brth in.  I have heard that they have a history of leaving ladies and babies for too long in distress before deciding on a section - the hopsital has, and prides itself on the lowest percentage of sections in the country!

I also dont really know what the exact problem was that caused me to have a section last time, so many doctors and midwives have told me that many different things.

I have an appointment with and obstertrician next week so i will be sure to sexplain all of my fears and doubts.

When are you due with this baby??  Good luck with the birth and let me know how you get on xxx

hi julie,

i am due to have my 3rd in jan 09, and im hoping to have a natrual birth, my 1st daughter now 9 had to be delivered my emergancy c-section as i had a plasenter abruption and by the time i got  to hospital i was 10cms dialated and id lost 2 pints of blood the plastener had dropped in to the neck of my womb so baby coulndnt get out., baby was also not looking good as her hb had dropped to 60 beats a min, so i had no choice i was given a general anasthetic and the next thing i knew it was 6hours later id had her and was on a drip and also having a blood transfusen.  i didnt enjoy one bit of my labour and it took me over a week to get moblie again. and 6 years to want another one!! with my 2nd daughter (now 3) i vowed i would not have a c-section again i guess this was because of how bad it was last time. i went to in labour and delivered her natrually.  i was so pleased with myself and really enjoyed every minute of the labour, the only down side was i had another abruption only this time it stayed at the top out the way so she could be delivered.  i have already decided im going to have a natrual delivery again with this one inless i have no other opsions!!! i feel im alot more in control of the situation and the recovery for me is alot quicker.  dont be afraid of giving birth natrually its the best feeling in the world, yes it hurts at the time but all the pain is worth it. i cant really give you advice as to what you chose to do, but just let you know my person experance. good luck hun, im sure what ever you chose will be fine and right for you.

emma xx
