Hi all...I'm a mum to 3 year old. I have been on the contraceptive injection (depo) since having him & am a little worried that this may impact on trying for baby no.2. Has anyone else had baby 2 after being on this?? How long did it take to conceive?? Any advice greatly received x

Hello LH

I am sorry to be the barer of bad news but DEPO is TERRIBLE and mucking up ovulation hun, i am not trying to scare you hun, BUT i was on it for a year and have been TTC for three, i am NOT saying this will happen top you hun, i am opver weight aswell and that plays a big impact on ovulation to... BUT DEPO is for women who have had there familys, and doctors are NOT counsiling women well enough on the impact it has on fertility in a bad way... I loved DEPO as i got no periods at all but now the word DEPO makes my cry...

I hope i have not worried you to much, but i suspect you want honesty to prepare you for ttc and seaking help from your doc, fertility normaly returns to normal in most cases by a year after the last injection, but it can take up to two years for your body to return to pre DEPO....

Go see your GP for proper advice hun, they can do bloods to see if your Ovulating, its a 21 day of your cycle progesterone blood test....

Sorry to be so blunt, but i would of rather kenw at the start when i was ttc than 2 years later about DEPO, i just WISH they star to speak to women who want DEPO and make the aware of the impact fully, its shocking!

Anyway you may be lucky and conceive VERY quick it does happen LOADS, all the best for ttc come and join us on the TTC thread, speak soon xxxxx

Thanks Ashrxxx for your honesty....you have been a huge help & have given me alot to think about...

Good Luck with ur TTC...may join u soon in the TTC thread

xxxx

afraid i have to agree with Ash. I conceived Jamie without even trying and afetr I had him I had 3 lots of the DEPO jab. Since Nov i have been trying to conceive baby no 2 and had no luck. I miscarried in Feb this year.

It just seems a coincidence that women who have had these seem to struggle to conceive.

Good luck tho hun and do come and join us on TTC thread.xx

Hi

I was on the depo injection and tried for 2 years after my last injections with both baby #1 (born in July 04) and baby #2 (due Sep 08).  It seems weird to me that i fell pregnant exactly 2 years after stopping and trying with both babies - to much to be a coincidence.  I have also heard a lot about other people who have been on the injection and have had trouble for a couple of years after.

If you defo want another baby i would not book your next injection - if it happens earlier that is just a bonus!!!

I will say that I will be going back on it straight after this one is born, I am definatley stopping at 2!!

Good luck

Julie xx

hi

i just wanted to say i used to be on this injection and i was on it for quite a long time, i must admit it did take a long time to fall pregnant again with my 2nd as my periods stopped and it took a while for them to come back again, keep on in there it may take time for your body to get back working again, it will happen.

i know this probably doesnt help you much but i just wanted to add this

Hi all,

I was on Depo for 2 years, and after my last jab, it took 18 months to fall pregnant with my son. I was looking into fertility treatment and all sorts. But just try to relax.

hi all... just wanted to agree with you all really...

I was on depo for a couple of years and came off it to ttc baby no 3.... my periods came back straight away and were regular 25 - 27 days without fail.... it took me 2 years to fall for baby number 3.....

I liked the depo as I had no periods with it and I knew that it can make some women infertile but I didnt mind as OH had said he wanted no more children and never actually expected him to change his mind.....

After 2 years of trying I decided that what will be will be and I obviously werent meant to have any more children..... i fell pregnant near enough straight away after that but mc in june due to a car accident then the following month I was late again and was pregnant and i had a lovely little girl who is now nearly 4 months old.....

I have not gone back on the depo as we do plan on having another in couple of years......

Good Luck and just relax and have fun x x x x
