hi tara

i have to have these injections i hadto have 1 a few weeks ago due to a bleed, i had the option to have it in my arm or thigh. i dont know too much about them but i do know that there is no side effects, the needle aint very big and it stings for a lil while.

but i did ask if there was any side effects and the midwife said there wasnt

hope this helps hun

love kym and bump 21/3weeks x

Hi Kym thanks for the reply congratulations on your pregnancy hope its all going well for you xx

Hi Tara

Not sure wheather to tell you this but better to be prepared........Sorry to say I find them hard to take. Mine sting and are quite unpleasent then my arm aches for the rest of the day. I have my second one in a couple of weeks and ain't looking forward to it. Leg or arm makes no difference they will both ache!

However there are definatly no side effects. I try and make sure I'm mid way through a conversation when the needle goes in then your as distracted as you can be. I've always thought that a vodka and tonic would also be a good idea to help...but not sure my Mat unit would go for it!

I also have to warn you that if baby turns out to be positive you might have to have another one after birth....... I did after I had Jessica. Luckily I'd had a section and my legs were still numb when they came to do it!!!

Good luck, it's all worth it in the end I promise.

I am rh neg and will have to have anti-D injections.  All I can say is that the potential side effects of not having the injections are much worse than having them as a precaution.

But like you, I hate injections.  I have to lie down when they take blood because I pass out!  So not looking forward to them.  The things we do for our babies!

Good luck with everthing xxx

hi ladies thankyou ever so much for your replies my mind is much eased now as i don't know anyone apart from my mum who had to have these injections and she can't really remember much lol

I will opt for being mid conversation while needle goes in, and i think i'll have it in my thigh as my arms are sensitive and i'll probably have to be pinned down or something lol

not to worry as when i was at school and we had our meningitus jabs i was the only one in the room who didnt cry lol, and thts saying something i get all nervous around sharp objects!!

as you say though, its better to have them done than not have them done at the end of the day its only afew seconds stinging!

will let you know how i get on when i have them

take care much love tara & thumper 26 weeks xxxxx

Hi tara and everyone, you dont HAVE to have these injections, only in some cases ie. a bleed etc, im RH neg too but i dont and havent had any injections thro any of my pregnancies (ive had 8) resulting in 6 children, i do have one injection after delivery but thats it, midwives paint the picture that its imperative you have them - not so!!! dont be bullied, if you dont want it - simple - dont have it! hugs and congrats to you all xxxxxxxxx
