Hi all

I'm new to this start so hope this works ok.

My partner and I are planning a baby, but having never grown up around children, I do not have a first clue of all costs involved.

Can anyone reccomend a webpage that will list all startup costs including buggies - nursing bras - paint for walls.  i would really like to see what a good sum to save up would be before we start trying.  I would like to do a sort of baby budget i guess!

hi you are better of looking at different sites for different things mothercare is reasonabley priced for baby things also argos normally have sales on there is a good pushchair in the sale now for £100 it has a car seat aswell as other things included you only need nursing bras if you are going to breastfeed and mothercare do some nice ones 2 for £25.    babies arent that expensive really and when they have out grown things you can always sell them if you dont want new things try looking on ebay i havent bought anything of there but people say its good.

when i want something new i google want i want like a cot then it will give you different places that stock cots.

just remember you dont need to buy loads all a baby needs is somewhere to sleep some clothes and food  and remember all your family and friends will buy you loads of clothes and teddies.

hope this helps.xxxx

Hi Reedymoo,

Another thing to do is join all of the 'babyclubs'...Tesco & Boots have them & the tesco one saved me a fortune as periodically they have a baby 'festival' where everything is cheap, but even better than that, if you know the end date of the 'festival' thing, if you go into you nearest 'Extra' store, all of the big stuff like travel cots are reduced to about £15 each - they even discounted the tommee tippee bottles by 50% last time - so join up - at least if there isn't a 'festival', you'll get extra clubcard points - the same goes with boots, but I know you've just missed the Sainbury's 'festival' & they happen rarely!!

As for a baby budget - I would get the mothercare catalogue - they send it for free from the website, & there's a list in the back of what you'll need, but please use your judgement - you won't need everything, & check ebay prices before you rush out to the local mothercare!! I'd say, you need, without canny buying, around £750 - but get family to buy stuff for you & DON'T go overboard on clothes - no matter what they say, you really don't know how big baby's going to be, so just get the bare minimum ie 6 vests, 6 babygrows etc., & ask family to hold off buying till baby's here....mine was born prem & only 5lb 10oz - you have no idea how hard it is to get stuff for small babies - we bought newborn size, & she won't be in it for at least another month!!

Wishing you the best of luck, & get bargain hunting early!!

Amanda & Abi xx
