Hi im gonna be a 1st time mum and want the best for my baby...i was never a fan of the whole breast feeding thing but cant deny that the milk is the best thing for my little fella once he comes along. I understand that "full milk" dosnt come for a few days but would like to know if it is ok to express the colostum  that comes before the milk as if not i will have to feed him formula and really dont want to as he will prob get used to it and not want breast milk then...please help bought very expensive breast pump and need to know if i should take it back?!?!?

Hi,

It's absolutely fine to express your colostrum, just a warning though for the first few days of expressing you may not get much out, don't get disheartened though just keep going with it, even giving baby a small amount is better than nothing! Some people find it really easy to express their milk, I never did though and my breast pump has not been used for probably about 5 months (my little boy is now 9 months old), I've got plenty of milk - always have had - I just can't get it out with a pump!!

Good luck

hi yeah its fine to express straight away you will need to take your expresser to hospital as baby will need feeding as soon as he is born, i breastfeed my daughter she is 15 weeks and i express and she takes both only really give her expressed when she is stopping at my mams. why dont you want to feed baby yourself you can do both and feed him yourself in the house and take a bottle with you if you are going out if that is a problem, also you can freeze milk for up to 3 months or store in the fridge for 24hours hope this helps.
