HI , I have a question... How accurate is dating scan? Is it possible that I was told that I am  11 weeks preg but I am actually 14 weeks? Can scan be so Inaccurate ?

2 weeks after my initial intercourse I had a period, after that I had couple of unprottected intercourses and found out I was preg. Went for the scan and was told that I am 11 weeks but I am some how convinced that I concived before my last period as we had sex on my full ovulation day according to the clear blue fertility monitor. In the month after my period none of the days showed as ovulating- which according to the dating scan this is when I would have conceived. Is this possible?

I'd go with the dating scan hun. 3 weeks is a pretty big gap. It sounds like you didn't get caught on your ovulation day but instead you got caught when you weren't really trying the month after. you can ovulate at different times month on month and sperm can collect in a pool at the neck of cervix so can concieve up to a couple of days after intercourse. If you had a normal period it's massivly unlikely that you had conceived that month, you can get implantation bleeding but that is pretty different to an actual periood.

Hope this helps, and congratulations.

Hi I think the dating  scan is very accurate! As my has not changed since my 1st scan and had another the other day and its all still the same...plus its more acccurate as they measure everything and calculate everything.xx

hi, the dating scan is very accurate, it measures the length of the baby to derminte the age.

hello - the dating scan is accurate to within a few days, and it's more accurate before 13 weeks when they use the crown to rump measurement rather than the head circumference. My first two scans at 6 + 4 and 8 weeks agreed with my dates for ovulation day, length of cycle etc; whereas my dating scan at 14 weeks put me at 4 days earlier. I agree with the ladies above, it's highly unlikely to be three weeks out.

Enjoy your pregnancy!

Pureapple, the girls above are right, the dating scans are very accurate (plus or minus a day or so). I am a radiographer and have had training in the ultrasound machines and its the sofeware that is loaded onto the systems that gives the figures so there is no room for operator error. All machines have to be renewed at a maximum of 5 years so the software will still be in date too. Sorry hun, looks like you may have conceived when you least expected it.

Hope all goes well throughout your pregnancy, take care.
