In my last pregnancy I was induced as I had a DVT and had to be monitored by various doctors at the birth, I am now on my second pregnancy and the dreaded DVT is back (although not as serious as before) but because I am on heparin treatment I am told I will have to be induced again this time around, but I managed to negotiate it from 38 weeks to 40 weeks to give me a chance to go naturally!
The point is I am terrified! The last time I was induced I had a 25 hour nightmare of massive contractions from 10 minutes after induction right through the night with nothing but paracetamol and a tens machine for company until 9am in the morning, this was then followed by 9 hours of pushing and throwing up (i could have sworn i read somewhere that you should not be pushing for this long) baby wouldn't budge so was eventually sucked out with the help of ventouse and an episiotomy which resulted in 15 stiches which got infected with MRSA! Following that I had 6 months of the lovely flesh eating virus that is MRSA eating away at my delicate area! (they failed to tell me what MRSA was at the time and told me it was just an infection) this was when it was relitavely new.
I wouldn't mind but my baby was only 6lb 5oz!
I dont even know why I am ranting about this but I am hoping someone has some advice! is it advisable to reuse the induction against doctors advice?
I am not due until November so any ideas to bring on labour naturally would be helpful
I have been induced with all 3 of my children, my experience wasn't anything compaired to yours, but i just wanted to point out that all of my inductions were different. Just because you had such a hard time of it the 1st time round shouldn'nt mean that it'll be the same again.
Also just wanted to ask about your induction, how did they start you off? was it a pesserie or a drip? I had pesseries which didn';t work with numbers 1 and 3, but once put on to the syntoscin (SP?) drip , things sped right up, even if it was painful.
Also 1st labours are always the hardest. My first scared me so much i was pushing until she was nearly out then stopping because i was scared. They had to threaten me with a c section for me to push her out. It is easier the second time around, plus as you know whats happening, you'll find your self a little more relaxed. ( i did say a little more, it's still scary!!!!)
hi, i was induced with charlie who was born 10th march 08.he was my first. although the pessery inducement didnt work and the drip one took FOREVER then they gave me too much to the point i was contracting too much..lol....i have a beef with not the inducing, but the ammount of time it took before i was induced.waters broke sat am.MW said wait till TUES !!took myself in sun.he ended up being dragged out with forceps, coz he got stuck coz apparently there was no lubrication there to aid him out and if id gone in straight away it would have been ok apparently. also got infection(my boy did)which was part of reason he got stuck, coz he had no waters around him they said.my point being, i also had a very long and unpleasent experience, but all is well that ends well, my boy is thriving ........ i dont know what to suggest bout the natural way to start you off...dont they say sex is good?..lol.
Thanks for the advice girls, Julianne sorry you had such a hard time like I did, Louise im sure youre right about them all being different though so fingers crossed this time goes more to plan or even better if I go into labour before that
Sorry to hear you had a horrendous time being induced but I would like to agree that it can be different as I was told horror stories prior to being induced and I had a really positive experiance.
i was induced a day and a half over my due date as they thought my little boy was going to be small and need to go on the scub ward, they induced me in the moring after hooking me up to a monitor for an hour to see how my little boy was doing. They induced me at about 10am, I started having really strong pains in my back striaght away that stayed right up unitl the following day when they broke my waters. Although it was painful, I used my tens machine thorughout hte day until the eveing when the pain was quite unbearable to the poin tof making me sick. Throughout the day and evening prior to the midwife breaking my waters I only had pains in my back, the eveing of inducing me they gave me a half dose of pethadine which was a god send, I managed to sleep for a couple hours, the following morning they gave me another half dose and then broke my waters later on, I had my son the following day at lunchtime after having another dose of pethadine which made me totally unaware of what was going on and the labour itself was painless, the injection fo rmy stiches was the most painful thing!!!
Looking back I am glad I was induced as it was quite a short labour 4 hours from breaking my waters, the pain before hand was managable although it did start rapidly and there was kllittle build up, I had a great team of midwifes artound me throughout the two days that really helped alongside my partner, Being induced meant that I wasn'thaving to wait until Finley decided to arrive, it didn't seem as painful as I imagined especially as I was told some real horror stories before I went in. I took the approach that yes it was going to painful but at the end of it I would have my baby, I think this really helped me as I have no pain thresehold what so ever.
Tens Machine and Pethadine really helped me and if it wasn't for having to work for the best part of a year to get back in shape and still have problem areas that won't go I woulf have another baby. Being induced for me seemed a really positive experiance and I was calm adn relaxed prior to having finley as we were booked in, able to drive in and park with no panicking etc. It was an ideal situation fro myself and I couldn't have wished for better care from the mid wifes and hospital whilst I was there.
Thanks for the advice its nice to hear other stories, I know it will probably be different this time, to be honest the pain doesnt scare me, its the pushing for hours and hours and hours that scares me, it was making me ill and the straining was really worrying because it went on for so long, I know it is my second so things would have stretched already so night be easier!
Just found out at scan yesterday we are having a girl
Hi don't know if its any good but just read on another site about drinking the usual rasberry tea etc but someone suggested inserting a evening primrose oil caputal into the vagina for a few nights before your due date and apparently it starts you off. Said its worked for everyone she knows - thinking on trying it coz with baby1 i was 10 days late and in the process of being induced when i went on my own.
hi clairei took raspberry tea tablets available form health stoores in the last month of pregnancy after reading lots on how safe oit is, I also drank rapsberry juice and ate lots of rapsberries anything raspberry I took. I really believe it helped to speed up labour as my actual labour from having waters broken was only 4 hours long and my little boy is my first baby. Different advice says that it will bring on labour but conflicting advice says it only helps during labour and helpd to speed up the labour itself. I really believe it helped me and I only needed to push for a bit, remeber pushing three times only. I also read alot abpout positions and was adamant I wasn't going to lie down, I stayed on my feet and leaning on my partner until near the end when i knealt on the bed with pillows and my partner to lean on. I think that helped as advice available recommeneded leyttting gravity help. This was the best advice I read throughout my pregnancy about the labour. I read a really great book called Blooming Births, the real no nonsense book of information that tells you how it is and this really helped. Also writing a birth plan which I hastily did the night before going to hospital made me feel so much more in control as I didn't want a epidural or spinal block, caseran only in emergancy and mediacl interception only if absolutley necessary. I think this helped me fell more calm and relaxed as the mw's I had really respected what I had written. Upo unitl I wrote it I thought it waas a really stupid idea and that it wouldn't really make a differnece and it felt stupid to write one. Really galsd I did it htough.
hi i treid all the natural ways to bring labour on and nothing worked for me, finley just wasn't having any of it. I took raspberry tea tablets, drank and ate anything raspberry, ate fresh pineapple, evening primrose, cod liver oil and orange juice (absolutly disgusting and never again) bumpy car drives |( across a moOr that is really rough), sex, jumping up and down, walking and also did my exercise dvd that Davinia Macall brought out for pre and post natal, her dvd was great especailly the actual interviews with her, it made the whole prenancy and labour etc less intimidating (finley is my first baby) and i felt more reassured and calm than I wouldhave otherwise alongsid ethe best book i found Blooming Births! anyhting and everything. I even cut the grass (made my mum go into labour with me),! i ADMITTED DEFEAT A COUPLE DAYS prior to having Finley, looking back I dont know why I bothered, I had a quick labour and felt really well straight away, up and showered and back on the ward in about1 1/2 hours afeter having finley. I also felt elated and glad it was over and would not mind being induced again. I thnk though every one has different expeeriances and I was lucky to have had such a good one.
For induced experience, I think it is the hardest time for me, I feel it is very painful and I oh I'm an out of the world on that time. Out of my experience I say that only one child is enough for me. Some says that natural giving birth is very different from an induced which is true.
Oh, No. 17 your due? its my birthday...For me, its better to give bith in natural way coz other says that it is not so painful in natural giving birth not like induced that for me on that time I'm out of the worlrd. But its up to you on how you control youself.
I was induced with baby number three at 42+3 and had my baby within 2.40 hours of the contractions starting.
It was so hard for me as I had set myheart on another homebirth and all of my babies have been born at 42-43 weeks but as my waters had graually dripped away i had to accept it was necessary. In actual fact it was the easiest birth I have had and deffinatly the shortest labour. I would have no worries having it second time round.
All labours and births are so different, I just try to nnot think what might be until the time comes.
I wish you luck with your babies.
I do know that pressure points can help bring on labour on naturally...it's always worth a go!
