Hi,

I had to have my first scan bought forward 2 weeks because I bled a little, luckily everything was OK.  Confirmed I am 10 weeks.

I was wondering whether I still needed my 12 week scan because of they being able to detect anything or I should just wait till my 20 week scan as the midwife said I don' need the 12 week one now???

I still can't get over the scan it was amazing seeing it's little heart beat

Hi Della.

Great to hear that everything is ok with your baby. You shouldnt need the 12 week scan as you were dated at the one youve already had.

Good luck for rest of pregnancy. em x

Thanks Em,

So it was basically just a dating scan then?  They didn't really explain too much!

That puts my mind at rest anyway

Thanks again

Della x

hey della,

I had my scan at 10 weeks as well and didnt have one at 12 weeks because i had been given my date. I cant wait til i get my 20 week scan, only got 2 weeks 2 go.

Im glad that everything is well, its so great when u seen ur wee baby for the 1st time on the screen thats when it really sinks in that u r actually having a baby.

When are u due ?

x claire x

hi della, i had a scan at 8 weeks, 13weeks then 20 weeks. i had a little bled so hence scan at 8 weeks but still had scan at 13 weeks.

Hi Claire,

Yep everything is OK so they say, im dead nervous about something going wrong, but I know thats normal, it's my first baby too so it's strange to me at the moment.  Yep it was amazing seeing baby for the first time, my partner was welling up it was really nice, and to think it's inside me, I can't wait for my 20 week either, I really want to know the sex too.

My due date is 27th March 09.  Seems like a lifetime away, now ive seen him/her I just want to be a mom even more than before.

Hi Vicky - can you request scans and just pay for them or something??  I always wondered that,

I would love one of those 3D scans they are fab

Della x

della,

i know the feeling believe me. Im not due until the 1st feb its so frustrationg because it seems that long away but once xmas is over it wont be long in coming in

this is my 1st baby as well so im the same, im so nervous about everything. Every small niggle im on the phone to the doc.

does ur hosp tell you the sex of the baby ?

we dont get told at our hosp, we have to go private and it costs anything from £125 - £250 to find out.

x claire x

you'll be so suprised how fast it starts to go, when i was was about 13 weeks i was thinking omg this is dragging, now ive got less than 16 weeks left.  i was like you i really really really needed to know the sex, i nearly didnt find out cos he was in a ball, then he flashed us just before the end!

good luck xxx

Claire,

Yeah it's standard at our hospital,  i think as long as they can tell at 20 weeks (depends on position i guess) they tell you.

It's a shame you have to go private and pay, we only have to pay for a print out,

I thought all hospitals were the same?

DO you want to know sex then?  I really do

Della x

yeah we did want to find out but i couldnt justify speanding all that money to find out when it could be better spent. If we could find out at the hospital then we would but ours dont allow it, we would have to go for a 3d scan.

we have to pay for print outs at our hosp but we can only get 4 print outs, its very limited.

i take it u will try and find out at ur 20 week scan ?

thats a shame, poor you.   Well the surprise will be even better won't it!!!

yep I will find out but have to keep it secret no one else other then me and my partner want to know!!

Della x

oh that will be hard, maybe when u know every1 else will want to know. I dont think i could keep it a secret.

yeah the surprise will be great, we just wanted to know more for colour schemes and clothes then we could be better prepared with a name.

keep me updated on the outcome of ur scan x x

Della, you would only need another scan if you are having the downs syndrome test and they couldn't measure the nuchal translucency -- but that takes place between 11 weeks and 14 so I'm sure they probably did measure for you
