Hi All im new to this site and hoping you can help me with my questions:-

I am 33 - 34 this year and i already have a son who is 10.I am also a good 3 stone overweight. But am trying to lose weight sensable.

I have been with my partner now for 5 years and we have been ttc for 6 months with no joy. I was on the pill for a good 8/9 years before.

1) Should i go to see the docs and ask for help as im not sure if i do ovualte but my periods are regular. (28 - 31 days) Can they help or just tell me to lose weight?

2)Is my weight the problem would it be safe for me to try cambridge diet as its quick will this help.

3) Does everyone use ovulation tests or charts(temp). We just try around the dates when i should be ov.

Any help o advice would be great.

hi - ok 1st just because your periods are regular does NOT mean that you ovulate!! mine were as regular as clockwork but i wasnt ovulating, had to take clomid.  Your weight shouldnt stop you conceiving altho obviously sensible weight loss will help! dont do "quick fix" diets just cut your portion sizes down and you'll find thats all you need.  Ovulation kits, yep, used them, cant say with success because have managed to conceive in the past without them, am using them this time to see how things go.  If you dont have any success in the next say 2 cycles i would deffinately contact your GP and get him to refer you for tests.  I was the same age as you when i met my hub we both had kids by previous partners but not together, i was on depo. You've been on the pill a while but i dont think it should have affected your fertility, you prob just need a boost like i did.  Hope the above waffling helps you good luck with the "trying" and hope you have yourself a baby soon xxxx

Hi

I would just like to let you know my story and hope it helps.

I have a 4 year old son who was conceived after 2 years of trying without using any ovulation kits, seeing as I was only 25 we didnt think there was any need to go to the doctors.

I started trying for baby no 2 when my son was 1 1/2 years old, we tried for about another 2 years without any luck and decided to go to our GP.  The GP was very helpful and booked us an appointment with a fertility clinic at our local hospital.  Whilst waiting for appointments we decided to buy an ovulation monitor which we started using.  Both me and my husband visited the fertility clinic and were booked in for tests but the week before I was due to have an xray I found out I was pregnant.

I really think the ovulation monitor helped a great deal, we had a very good idea when I was ovulating and when i hadnt at all. And wether it was a coincidence or not I fell pregnant after using it for just 3 months.  I also think going to my GP helped a lot at least we got the ball rolling and if I hadnt fallen pregnant we would have been doing something about it.

All in all I felt much more in control activley doing something to help rather than just hoping every month - I just wish I had done these things sooner!!

Anyway I am 28 weeks pregnant with baby #2 now and it was worth doing everything I could.

Good luck

Julie congrats to you and your husband.

I have been to the docs today and he has booked me into have some blood taken in 21 days. Why 21 days im not sure.

By doing this he can tell if i am ovualtion

Wishing you all the best xx
