Buyer's guide to group 1 car seats

My baby is tall but slender (just like his dad!) so is nearly too big for his group 0 seat. His head will soon be level with the top and his feet over the edge - but he's not 9kg yet, and won't be for a while. He's sitting up perfectly well and will be 1 next month. Can I move him to the next stage yet?

Hi, i had the same problem with my daughter. She is 22 months now and only just past the 9Kg mark.We went to mothercare and explained about her being to long for the baby carrier as she was nearly 2 and they still advised that we waited till she was 9kg as if she was too light it could be the difference between a broken leg (if she was in the baby seat)and something worse if she was too light for the stage 1 so we waited till she hit 9kg.I think its up to you but i would just check it out further first.Hope that helps x

Thanks for that, Emma, it does help. A broken leg sounds awful, but if that's the better option then I definately don't want to risk anything worse.Which baby seat were you using?
Your daughter sounds a similar build to my son. My friends with younger babies are moving up to the next stage - infact one has a son 6 months younger who's already bigger! Thanks again, Kx

you need a 0+/1 seat in that case rather than a stage 1

there are a few out there thankfully

use it rearfacing till 9kg then forward facing till 4 years old
