Gro bag

I have a gro bag for my baby to sleep in when  it arrives. The gro bag is very long. If babys feet need to be at the base of cot what do you do with excess gro bag, fold under baby? or just have baby further up the cot and end of gro bag touching base? In someways as baby can't wriggle under any blankets as it's in gro bag perhaps this doesn't matter. However, it's just one of the many little things that this soon to be  new mummy can't be quite sure of so would appreciate some advice!

Thanks

Hi Eowyn, there is a lot of do you dont you use a gro bag from birth. A lot of people recomend that you dont use them till 3 months+ bacause of overheating and a lot of people that say it prevents them from wriggling under the blankets. If you feel more comfortable using one then I would recomend that you get a newborn one to be on the safe side. And always feet to the foot of the bed, if the gro bag you use is oversized then it is quite likely that they will still be able to wriggle down. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and birth, Nicola x.

Hi, I have used gro bags for my son since he was newborn. You can get them in different sizes, tesco do some for about £10 and they start in size 0-3 months. One of my son's gro bags is very long so I just tuck it in at the end of the mattress so his feet are still at the end of the cot. As the gro bags have parts where the arms go through babies can not wriggle down the grow bag unless their arms are inside. I have never had any problems and my son loves his gro bags and will not go to sleep without them. If it is a cold night then I also put a blanket(s) over him aswell.

I hope this helps

Oh thanks. I'll do that tuck it under the mattress. Makes sence. I think if you get the right tog for the time of year there shouldn't be a danger of overheating. Well no more so than using blankets. You'd still need to make sure the number of coverings were right for the temp of the room so I can't see the differnece. The gro bags I have are for 0-3 months and have arms so they can't wriggle down. However, tucking it under mattress will mean there's no where to wriggle to. Thanks for the advice girls.

Thats ok glad we could help, there is no increased risk of over heating in fact several h/v say it can reduce the chance of over heating.

I started using gro-bags as my daughter started to kick the covers off and I couldn't sleep properly as I felt I had to keep checking they weren't over her face!  Like you I discovered that they were very long but I also put her at the bottom of the cot and tuck the excess under the mattress leaving a little loose so that she can move without waking herself up.  She can't wringle down the gro-bag but I think that tucking it under possibly makes her feel a little more secure like a blanket would.
