Growth Spurt?

Hi Mumsies....

My son is 7 weeks today and is adorable.  But for the last five days in a row, it has been difficult getting him to sleep between 5 pm and 9 pm... he cries a bit, fussy, wriggles... etc etc...  is this a growth spurt?  I know its not colic or wind, as I get rid of it all, sometimes with the help of gripe water.

help?

Hi Emma,

Does this happen shortly after you feed him or is it in between feeds?. Maybe he is becoming more hungry and needs a little more.  It could be a growth spurt as I also notice when my son is going through a growth spurt, he becomes very unsettled for about a week then I notice his clothes no longer fit!!

emma - as i understand it babies have "growth spurts" at around 6wks and 14wks and 6mnoths (i beleive) when i breast fed my dd would have days when she would feed and feed and feed and nothing would settle her. unfortunatly there is nothing you can do about it. but it does get easier. and as they get older it gets easier!

just incase you are unsure of the signs of colic/wind incase it is that, babies will pull there legs up to there chest, will be unsettled and often have a blue tinge above there top lip. infacol is a fab product for this. and baby massage is also great. lie your baby on its back and rub (in a clockwork motion) your babies belly. it is so rfelaxing for baby, mum and i found helps them sleep.

hope you get a good sleep soon. if it does continue ask you h/v. get them weighed and that will be able to give you an indecation of weather they are having a spurt. good luck honey and sorry if i have told you what you already know!! xxx

Hi Bec and Natty

Thanks for your replies. Appreciated.  It has put my mind to rest a little. He has gone bigger... I have now had to pack away a few more of his clothes that don't fit.  Quite frightening how quick it happens and they don't really wear the same clohtes for long...

Well, thanks for your answers Natty B as my baby has been asking for feeds, nearly every hour, for the last past 2 days...yesterday was my husband first day back at work, so was a bit daunting at first.

Will get better I am sure.
