I'm 21 weeks pregnant and at our 20 week scan I was told that I have a condition called SUA (single umbilical artery) which affects just 1% of pregnancies. You are supposed to have one vein and two arteries in the umbilical cord - I have just one of each - so there is risk of the baby stopping growing before full term and resulting in an early delivery and small birth weight. It can also mean the baby has heart and kidney problems, but luckily we've been told that all appeared to be fine with the baby at the scan. Just means baby has to be monitored regularly from about 30 weeks onwards. Anyone else been told that they have this, or know of anyone who has had it and how things have panned out?
