Anyone in the Braintree area?

Hi,

I'm three months pregnant and as my partner lives in Braintree will be moving up there when the baby is born. Am nervous about moving to a new area as a new mum and leaving all my good friends that live locally behind. So if there are any mums in the area who are looking to make a new friend I would love to hear from you!

Hi Caroline, I'm not in the area, but I just wanted to give you a little reassurance that in a way this is a great time to move. When you have a baby you're likely to make new friends through the baby anyway, and your social circle/spcialising habits will probably change in any case.

I'm relatively new to where I live to and looking forward to the antenatal classes already.

When are you due btw?

Hi Maria

Many thanks for your words of support. My mum has said exactly the same thing and am sure things will seem easier once I have moved up there. I think its all the emotional changes that go on with pregnancy that has made me so worried and its daft really as for years I spent my Summers working in Greece which involved meeting and making new friends as others moved on.

It would just be nice to get to know a few people before I move that perhaps I can meet for coffee, shopping etc once i'm there.

Whereabouts do you live?

At the moment i've been told my due date is 20 June but I have my first scan on Monday so should have a more accurate date then.

I know exactly what you mean Caroline, I'm sure we'll find a couple of TB peeps not far off from you before the baby arrives. When are you going to do the move, before or afterwards?

Meanwhile you can drum up some online pregnancy support on here. There's already a May mum's club and a July mum's club, but not one for June yet, so maybe you could start one off on the forum. There are definitely other mums due in June who post here. Otherwise just general posting in the forum is a good way to get support without driving your childless friends completely potty I find.

I live in Munich, Germany, so nowhere near! Used to live in north London before that.

Good luck at the scan on Monday! Hope you see the heartbeat and movement.

There is the start of an ultrasound gallery on the site here and also other scans in the gallery if you want a sneak preview of the kind of thing you might see.

I think its more likely I will move once the baby is born as all my antenatal care has been organised where I am living now plus I work locally too. I am very lucky though as am currently living at my parents who have been a great support (my mother has had 5 children herself!) plus I have a sister less than a year younger than me who is also pregnant and a few weeks ahead so we are sharing all our experiences.

I have read several of the threads on here and everyone seems so friendly and supportive so will definately keep online.

Sounds like you had a much bigger move than I did ..have you managed to settle well in Germany?

Wow, that sounds like a great set-up for a calm and reassured pregnancy. How great that your sister is pregnant too. Your mum must be over the moon (well, mine would be).

Settling in Germany is going well thanks, and this is a particularly good time to be here, they really 'do' Christmas.

I love seeing parents take their children about by sledge too.

I can imagine Germany must be extra special at Christmas. Have been to Brussels around this time of year and they definately know how to celebrate it!

My mum is very happy especially as she has 4 daughters all in their 30s and until recently no sign of any grandchildren.... my sister and her hubby had been trying for 2 years so when I announced I was pregnant shortly after she did I was very wary about not stealing her special news. I love hearing my mum telling friends and relatives that my sister is expecting a baby in May and I am expecting in June!

Caroline - we moved soon after our first baby was born, and as Maria says it was actually a good time as there are lots of support networks you can tap into which make it easy to met new people who are in exactly the same position.
