Stretchmarks

I am pregnant and want to know if anyone has had any luck with skin care for stopping stretchmarks? I have heard that some are not safe to use and can harm my baby but I am so confused by which ones are ok and actually work to prevent stretchmarks, as I happily grow into my 9 month bump!

Hi Steffy, I use bio-oil on my skin as I have a skin condition that makes my cuts over heal producing huge scars and welts. I have used bio oil for years in combination with other prescribed things for that, and now use it on my hips thighs and bump too. so far I have had nothing and I am a rather large 26 weeks right now!

I know boots have a good range of pregnancy products and they sell a few different stretchmark creams and oils (one lovely one with lavender oil in) and pregnacare also do a stretchmark cream if you dont like the feel of oil. Im sure that as they are produced specially for pregnancy then they are safe for your baby.

Hope that helps! How far along are you?

Hi,

I used bio oil religiously from the beginning of my pregnancy and I gave birth to my 8lb 9oz daughter in September and I have no stretch marks on my belly or thighs so I would reccomend it, plus it smells lovley!  It's not that cheap but a little goes a long way, i used it twice daily and used less than 2 bottles.  Unfortunatley my boobs did not escape the stretchmarks but as they went from a b to an f cup over the pregnancy I don't think anything would have helped, lol! (and my gorgeous girl is worth every one)

Also a lot of it is down to genetics, if your mum and sisters got them then it's likley you will too.   Most creams say if they're not suitable for use in pregnancy and lots of shops do specific pregnancy ranges.

Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy.

Hi,

I also used Bio Oil twice a day.  In the shower I also used Johnson's Baby Oil all over my bump, boobs, hips, bum (you can afford to go mad with it for £1.50 a bottle).  After getting out of the shower or bath I have always used Nivea Rich Body Moisturiser and did so in pregnancy.

I gave birth to my little boy in December by c-section and I don't have any stretch marks and I'm now using bio oil on my c-section scar.

Good Luck

Hi, I haven't really used anything, smetime i'll remember to put cocobutter on, I'm s naughty, I have 9 weeks left and no sign of stretchmarks.  Everyone keeps saying im lucky but I recon mine will appear once baby is born and my belly (hopefully) shrinks.

Has anyone ever had the stretchmarks later on?

I used coco butter and palmers for stretch marks but still got them and for those who don't have any sometimes appear after they have their baby and loose the weight! the skin gets them upin gaining weight and loosing it. Suck right....if you have none your sooooooo lucky.

you can use any concoction of creams and still get stretch marks in the same way that you can use nothing and get none!

I was going to buy bio oil until I saw the price then I thought I'm not that worried about whether I have stretchmarks or not. I have stretchmarks in places that I the world will never see. It's the wrinkly tummy that I don't like and standing in a Next changing room makes it look way worse.

I never had stretchmarks until my last few weeks of pregnancy!! I also used cocobutter creams and oils and even had the mother-to-be treatment at the spa - but none of it worked!! I have also heard that genetics play a huge role and my mom had stretchmarks, so I sort of resigned myself to the fact that I would get them eventually!! I would also say that they are generally in places where nobody but myself and my husband will see them!!
