Unknown preganacy and not showing!

Hi, I am a very worried friend of a young Mum-to-be. She found out she was 32 weeks pregnant only last week. She is on the Pill and had continued to have bleeding at the end of each packet which only got a bit lighter (she thought this was due to stress-graduating and starting a managerial job) along with a few tummy upsets.
She is very petite in frame and you cannot tell she is pregnant in the slightest. She thinks she may have only put on about 4lbs! Im really worried that that is simply not enough. She's had a 'mini' scan when she was taken to hospital and found out she was pregnant, so I suppose if anything was drastically wrong she would have been told then???? (She is due a scan on Tues though).
Pregnancy was the last thing on her mind so it's come as a big shock. I was just wondering if anyone has or knows someone in a similar situation? Just so I could reassure her that she's not the only one. At the moment its so hard to stop her (and me) worrying!
Thanks everyone.

Hi
I found out I was pregnant at 5 months. I didn't show till I was about 6 months. I had taken the morning after pill and I was still have "light periods" I have also always been quite irregular.
When me and my partner found out it was the biggest shock ever and when Freya was born we had been together 10 months! Which is also another weird twist in my tale! They would have said if there was any problems. Get her to request a scan if she hasn't had a proper one.
When you find out late its really hard to get your head round it. But just let her know that it does happen to alot of people. Its not so uncommon. At the end of the pregnacy is when the baby will start gain weight and grow bigger so she may start showing soon. If she is worried get her to chat to the midwife.
If you want anyone to chat to I am here! Love Claire xxx

Thank you so much Claire! Thats put me quite at ease. I'm a 3rd year Medical student so I think especially she was turning to me for advice, but I haven't done any Obstetrics yet and found good info quite hard to find!
Congrats to you though for managing to get through it all!

i also have a friend in a similar situation and she is worried that she hadn't been doing the 'right things' (eating right, not drinking, etc.) for the first 5-6 months...any insight or ideas for reassurance that i can give her? she is not upset about having another baby just that she may have caused damage.

My Mum got pregnant with my sister without knowing it. She found out at 5 1/2 months by which time she had had the contraceptive injection twice. She was also dieting like mad to lose pregnancy weight from the baby she had had 6 weeks before getting pregnant again. So a huge shock and they were born about 10 mths aprt. They are now 26 and 27 yrs old. The baby is so much loved by my Mum amd Dad though she was an 'extra' it makes no dif at the time they are born. Also my sister in law stayed on the Pill for many months while pregnant with ehr son - now aged 17 years! Both babies were unaffected by the hormones or wht Mums did or didnt do right in the first months. One of whom drank alcohol etc! Lucky she found out before she got birth pains as she seems a likely candidate given her small size for it to be hidden right throughout. I know of others who have be so so tiny right through and babies were born completely normal and of good weight. All the best to Mum and baby and what a good person you are to care for her so.
