Hi can anyone tell me any ways to get rid of headlice without the chemicals? I am 20 weeks pregnant and my 2 little darlings have gone and picked up headlice (and i wanted Lucie to start school?) i'm picking them out of their hair but it seems never ending, so i wondered if anyone knows of something that will work that would be safe for me to put on them?
Also it cannot be arosols as Lucie has a tracheostomy and cannot be around things that are arosol based.
The doctor gave me some cream for their hair but told me not to use it as i'm pregnant and to get someone else to do their hair, trouble is Kaleigh is a 2 person job as she hates having her hair washed as i have posted before!!

thanks

Hiya i have heard tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner gets rid of them. Just wash the hair as normal with the shampoo smother the hair with the conditioner and use a nit comb when the conditioner is still on and they should just slide off the hair!

My mum did this with me and my sister so much when we were little! I still have horrific images of her cracking them with her fingernails urghhh!

LOL. Most supermarkets sell tea tree shampoos. Do you have a home bargains where you live? They sell it and its cheap there i think superdrug does too.
Hope you get rid of them! x

hi louise

you can also try mixing tea tree oil (nearly all chemists will stock this) into a standard conditioner or olive oil. smear on the hair, leave for 20-30 mins then comb out as Sara suggested. The tea tree is a natural anasthetic and antiseptic so knocks the little blighters out and the conditioner provides the bulk to comb through. it also enables you to see them!

good luck - the trouble with these monsters is that they will keep coming back through most of the primary years so natural products are better and usually cheaper..

You can buy an electric nit comb that zaps the lice. But its the eggs you have to concentrate on getting rid of. You will have to wet comb for up to a week to ensure the eggs are gone. Don't forget to wash all the towels, bedding, hats, coats and to check your hair and your partners hair too.

You can also buy a pump spray to use to try and prevent lice coming back, but you can only use it once you are sure the headlice are gone.

If you do use a chemical treatment (use gloves) you will still have to wet comb with conditioner for up to a week.

Hi Melanie thanks fot your advice. My daughter that i wrote this for hasn't got them at the mo, but my older daughter who's just started school comes home everyday with them. I check her hair as soon as we get home and she always has a couple of adults. By the time i get them out of her hair they have already laid eggs!
I have to check her hair with natural remedies as i can't use the lotions a. because Lucie has a tracheostomy and b. because i'm pregnant.
So it looks like i'm on nit duty every night!
