hi steffy
i have a 2 1/2 year old and she is able to recognise colours numbers and a few letters. but i do have to say i have been told she is quite advanced. she does chatter all the time and is very observent (but not a golden child cos does fall short in other areas so not bragging!) but i beleive between 2 and 3 they should start to get the hang of these things. with boys it is usually later (as with most things for boys)
i spend 20 mins a day with molly just playing with some toys and chatting about colours and numbers and letters and she has started to pick it up really well. we count the stairs every time we go up and down and when we go for walks i point out colours. i got her a wooden clock with shapes with different colours and the numbers on. she has been able to put the shapes in the clock and can tell me the colours easierly. numbers are getting there. but with letters its not so easy and i must admit i get confused myself with what to teach her. dont know much about phonics etc.
the net is prob a good place to get ideas of interactive fun games to play in everydy situations. and will prob give advice on where he sould be at what age.
but i would say you are prob on the right track. it prob wont take too long but if your worried speak to your h/v. but spending just 10 mins each day playing with flash cards etc will prob help him loads. hope that helps hon xxx
