writing stories for children

Hi all,

I'm a single mum, widow and am trying to work from home.  I came up with ideas on stories and quirky poems, but what I'd really like to know is, What do parents and child really like reading together?  I want to help encourage reading but many parents feel so guilty when they don't read to their kids alot, but probably the child has little patience for the book. 

So can anyone help, please tell me what both you and your child enjoy reading?

That's great that you want to encourage reading. As for my son of 3 and me we love reading adventure stories or even animal related stories.
