Help, is my Temp abnormal?

Hi all,

Can you help.
Have started to chart properly this month (AF Started Monday)so took my temp for the first time this morning, and it read 34.29!

When I eventually woke up enough to write it down, I realised my chart (that I got from this website) started at 35.6 upwards.

Is there something wrong, or shall I just amend the chart to start lower?

Hi Louise,

I had quite low temps (just off the chart and I made the chart!) also at the beginning. Most women will fall within the bounds of the chart, but not necessarily. It may have to do with the time you take your temp, I was taking mine quite early, and so I just adjusted the chart to suit me. I found that after a while as my periods settled down I crept up to within the usual range. Also it's very common to get one temp that's quite low or quite high depending on your activity levels, diet etc. Ideally when you chart you want to start at the first day of your cycle, which is the first day you come on, so you can get a picture of the whole cycle when you reach the first day of your next period you mark it on the chart you're finishing and then again on your new chart for the next month.
Hope that helps

Thanks Maria

That's put my mind to rest, will amend my chart and carry on. I should have started at the beginning but was waiting for my thermometer to come in the post!

Thanks for your advice

Hi Louise

I got my thermometer yesterday and started this morning and I too was below the chart! I am on day 6 though as, like you, I was waiting for the thermometer to arrive.

Perhaps in a few weeks when we have some more figures it will all become clear.

No problem Louise, hope you're finding it ok to remember to take the temp etc. It can seem like a real drag at first, but it very quickly becomes second nature - I kept on waking up to temp even after I fell pregnant!

I had a couple of charts that didn''t make much sense, but across the seven of them it's sometimes amazing how clearly you can see what's going on. Also quite amazing how much a few drinks or some heavy exercise affects your temp.

Welcome to the world of charting Kelly, hope it goes well for you too. Any questions let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Hi all

Sorry to go on about this again, but something someone said on another thread made me think I might have an under active Thyroid (probably just my mind trying to make another excuse why I haven't conceived yet!), so just wanted to get other opinions!

My temp (at 745am) is around 33ish - read on a website that this is very low and 'normal' is around 36!!

Any thoughts - should I go to the doctor to check?

Ok Ok - so I'm not dead!!! was playing with my thermometer last night and realised I was doing it all wrong!!

I wasn't keeping it in my mouth long enough to work (haven't even got the excuse of pregnancy hormones to fall back on!)..

So the last month and a half charting has been total rubbish!! Quite relieved really as was wondering why my chart was looking like a mountain range!!

Whooopsss

Hi Louise
Glad you're not going through an internal ice age after all! Testing and charting can be a bit of science sometimes, but stick with it. xx

Louise

I did that for the first day. My thermomemeter seems to vary in how long it takes - sometimes 1 minute sometimes 6 mins. Even so, it does still resemble some hills if not mountains!

At least you know there's nothing seriously wrong.
