If you played music to your baby in the womb then you'll already be well aware that it's never too early to interest your little one in music. The aim of baby music classes is to introduce young children to music in a way they can both understand and enjoy. As with other baby learning classes they'll also have chance though these classes to develop invaluable social life skills such as participation, sharing, listening and performing in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
The classes also teach babies musical phrasing and rhythm through various playful activities, dances and games. With gentle encouragement from you and the teacher, babies and toddlers can grow in confidence - pointing, clapping, waving and jigging to the songs, and eventually singing along.
One of the ThinkBaby team attends Tin Pan Annie in South London for weekly, half-hour, themed music classes for babies and toddlers. The very enhusiastic team, dressed up in bright overalls and playing guitars, come from a variety of backgrounds - graduates in teaching, music and the performing arts.
The class starts off with a very sweet ‘tick-tock’ song and other simple ‘warm up’ songs and then gets progressively livelier - and louder! It ends with the toddlers getting a chance to play (or rather bang) their own musical instruments. Mothers beware of flying rattles and drum sticks!
