Hi there - I'm still around! Emma doing really well and at 12 weeks today is 12lb 11oz - which is just right! Mummy Milk works like magic and is obviously just what she needs! Happy New Year to you all and your lovely families. xx
Gilly, there are certainly times where the breastfeeding is not what I would call easy - and all the advice you get is a bit prescriptive and doesn't always suit you and your baby, but I've found that if you can stay calm and just via trial and error at each feed find something that works well enough, it works out in the end.
As an example, most books tell you that you need to get almost all the areola into the baby's mouth. Crikey - I couldn't get most of my areola into my OWN mouth, let alone baby Emma's!!!! The advice in books is all a bit generic and not helpful if you aren't an average size and shape yourself. Also the "mummy to tummy" they keep going on about doesn't always work for me - quite often my little wriggler will absolutely refuse to lie in the "right" position, so we've worked out a compromise which seems to work for us. They can't touch you for it, you know! Long as baby is gaining weight (which she is!).
Lovely name, by the way. There aren't many Elizas around! Take care ladies. xx
