Which baby names were top the list in 2011?
The top baby names for 2011 in England and Wales have been revealed by the Office For National Statistics (ONS).
Topping the list for boys was Harry, closely followed by Oliver and Jack. For girls, Amelia pipped Olivia to the top spot, with Lily ranking as the third most popular.
More than 720,000 births were recorded. Names starting with ‘J’ made a strong appearance for the boys, with Jack, Jacob, James and Joshua all featuring. For the girls, it was names ending in ‘a’ that filled the top 10 spots, with Amelia, Olivia, Jessica, Ava and Isabella all starring.
A few names were jostled out of the top 100, with newbies Bella, Willow and Kayla making it onto the girls’ list. For the boys, Tommy, Blake, Frankie, Elijah and Jackson leapt into the top 100.
According to the ONS, the seasons play their part, with Holly being the most popular girls name in December and Summer in August.
The celebs may have played their part, too. Myleene Klass has a daughter called Ava, Pink has a Willow, Danielle Lloyd has baby Harry and, of course, both princes Harry and William are there. Will it be the year of the Kate in 2012?
