When we ran a poll in the autumn to find out what new parents considered to be their biggest challenge, a whopping 59 per cent said 'lack of sleep' was their biggest problem.
Now Tomy have conducted their own major piece of research on sleep and new parents. Their research shows some amazing key points:
Parents struggle as they lose up to two months' worth of sleep in their baby's first year.
Fifty five per cent of mothers admitted to being 'much more emotional' due to lack of sleep.
Twenty three per cent said they felt it put a strain on their relationship with their partners.
By their first birthday, 39 per cent of babies are still not sleeping through the night.
More than half of all babies and toddlers are awake every morning by 6.30am.
Nearly half of those who contributed to the research said they had experienced 'Competitive Sleep Syndrome', where they had argued with their partner over who was getting the most sleep.
A fifth of those questioned said they thought their friends had lied to them about their own babies sleeping through!

Tomy, who make toys and safety products for the nursery, including baby monitors, have put together some useful information and advice on the issue of sleep in your baby's first year. This free guide can be downloaded by going to www.tomy.co.uk for the 'Little Book of Zzzzs'!
