The concept:
Combines the classical music sounds which are said to be restful but also stimulating to babies with soothing images of puppets doing simple things, developmental toys whirring, turning and flowing, and so on. This DVD aims to entertain your baby for the precious moments when you do want to sit her down in front of the TV without feeling guilty.
Unless your baby or toddler has an older sibling, it'll be quite a while before your child actually wants to interact with your TV and it will often be switched off, but there is a place for gentle DVDs like this to offer visual stimulation and something subtly entertaining.
The images and sound have been developed by speech therapists, pre-school teachers and mothers so this is well thought-out.
In action:
Although it is intended for younger children, the age range is 1 to 4. I sat down with a nearly-three-year-old who loved it and wanted to watch sections over again. She is used to being in the room when her older sister watches things like Scooby Doo, so this I think was a welcome break for her!
Little nursery rhymes accompany one or two minutes of toy buses counting up and down, or fish swimming across the screen, for example. The mix of jolly tunes, restful classical music and these simple but affecting images seemed to really work. Great for toddlers who need a little wind-down time!
