 FETAL DEVELOPMENT 30 / 05 / 05

Fetal development: Week 9

Your baby has grown to nearly 1.5 centimetres. Over this week your baby’s hands and feet begin to look more human as they lose their webbed like structure. What's more, the hands will be able to bend at the wrist and your baby now has elbows! By the end of this week the eyelids are almost covering the eyes.

The gender of your baby, already established at the time of conception, will now begin to make its mark as the sex organs begin to form, testes first for the boys and ovaries for the girls.

What’s happening with Mum?

Besides feeling tired and maybe having an upset stomach, you may find that you are suffering from a frequently blocked nose or nosebleeds, both of which are quite common in pregnancy.

You'll need to take particularly good care of your teeth while you're pregnant as it's quite common for pregnant women to suffer gum problems. Flossing your teeth frequently might help, apart from being meticulous with brushing, and just hope you're not one of the pregnant women who finds toothpaste makes them retch!

NB: All pregnancies are different and fetal growth rates vary, this is meant only as an approximate guide to development. If you have any concerns about your developing pregnancy then speak to your doctor.

Caring for your pregnancy

Bleeding during early pregnancy - Although it can be frightening, in many cases bleeding during early pregnancy is usually nothing to worry about, but you should always tell your doctor if it happens. Find out more.

Taking folic acid - Besides cutting out toxins, the most important step you can take as a pregnant woman is to make sue that you're taking 400mcg of folic acid daily. Here's how and why.

Pregnancy experiences

Ups and downs of morning sickness- I'm 9 weeks pregnant and I've been having pretty bad morning sickness! It usually lasts most of the day but it suddenly seems to have stopped! Still feel nauseous but im not being sick anymore! Is it normal for it to just stop and now? asks Fifi on the forum.

Why not check out what else we're talking about in the pregnancy folder? It's a great place to ask questions and get or offer support .

Making the most of it Hols next week! Greek islands here we come and I'll be darned if I wear much more than a bikini all week. Got to make the most of it while there's chance... blogs Barb for week nine.

You know you won't have that figure long, so it's a good idea to enjoy while you can, and why not keep a record of all the changes in your own blog?
