The concept:
Silver Cross are renowned for their prams, but in recent years they have created a fleet of stylish, urban buggies. Their lightweight Pop has been a real success, as has their more conventional travel system, the 3D. Here the S4 offers a sporty model for chic mums and dads.
The black (with silver trim) interior and luxurious, padded seat look more like the psychiatrist's couch than something to ferry your baby around in, but the headrest, smooth drawstring recline movement, and solid but well suspended wheels are all designed to give your child a five-star travelling experience.
Although the S4 is not the lightest three-wheeler around (at 12.4kg, it's twice the weight of the Quinny), it is a seriously comfortable ride, ideal for parents who like to go on long walks (the suspension will lull baby to sleep even on bumpy country lanes) or shopping sprees around town (the front wheel can do an impressive 360 degree turn). It's a solid ride but it feels flexible and easy to handle.
For parents, although the handle doesn't adjust down below one metre, we liked the handlebar brake as it gives you a feeling of control and safety. (And it's great if you're a jogging ma or pa.)
Closing it is a doddle and, whilst it looks like it's going to fold down like a travel system, it makes one extra flip into a neat little bundle to pack away in your car boot. (It's even smaller with the quick-release wheels whipped off.)
The S4 comes only in Jet Sport (black with silver trim), but you can choose accessories in the following colourways: Blossom (pink and soft grey with a check pattern), Salsa (red and soft grey), Pistachio (black and green circular patterns), or co-ordinating Jet Sport for the complete 'baby in black' look.
The accessories pack costs £60 and includes: luxury footmuff, parasol, changing bag.
The matching Ventura Infant Carrier (newborn car seat) costs £80.
