Review: 'All Asleep' picture book

All Asleep by Joanna Walsh

Wonderful, lilting text about what babies do, perfect for small children to share at bedtime. Suitable from 12 months up.
Nothing to fault!
Price: £10.99 (hardback)
Contact: Hodder Children's Books

Small children love seeing images of other babies and here, Walsh makes the most of that, with beautiful images of babies doing just what every baby does: sleeping!

Through her rhyme and the pictures, Walsh lists babies in different places (with their toys, in cradles, at the kitchen table), in different homes, clothes, with mummy, granny and so.

Babies in ships upon
the deep blue sea.
Fingers to lips,
"Shhhh, babies fast asleep."

It's a fun journey all about the fact that babies love to sleep, and as such, a wonderful book for an older sister or brother to read with you to a new baby because it celebrates the very thing that many older siblings find strange and frustrating about their new 'playmate'! Plus, all this talk of sleep makes perfect drowsy subject matter for all children to enjoy at bedtime.

The ThinkBaby verdict

A gorgeous picture book for the very young, and a wonderful present idea.
