Adrian Reynolds might be best known for his Harry & His Bucketful of Dinosaurs books, but here he joins forces with Julia Jarman for a bathtime romp to get even the most reluctant bather into the foamy water.
The book originally appeared in a regular format, but here it has been repackaged as a boardbook (where the pages are much thicker), making it ideal to share with babies and young toddlers just at that point where they are beginning to grizzle about bathtime. (Check out ThinkBaby's article on toddlers who won't bathe for more.)
Conversely, it's also a lovely book to share with kids who already associate baths with having watery fun.
It's bathtime, and Ben and Bella are splishing and sploshing each other. Then the dog dives in! As the splashing continues, the children begin to imagine all kinds of adventures - a bouncy lion joins them, then a duck, a giraffe and penguin, a hippo and so on, until the bath actually takes off like a flying ship!
The images are colourful and fun, while the story is pacey and full of the fun rhyming that young children love.
