When you have twins or two children of differing ages who still need a buggy, it's not always easy to find the right combination. Sleeping modes, from-birth positions, better support for older children - there are many headaches to overcome. But iCandy's new Pear pushchair claims to cover all the options you could possibly need. And with 20 - yes 20 - different modes, we think they're probably right!
The iCandy Pear for versatile travel
Using the British design and engineering know-how that made the Apple pushchair and the Cherry so popular, the iCandy Pear is a great combination of ingenuity and stylish looks.
When used with one or two Maxi Cosi Cabrio car seats (sold separately), or with the carrycots available with the Pear, it is suitable for two new babies. Happily, it positions the babies quite high up so the lower child is not practically on the ground as is very often the case with other models.
Importantly, it's easy to set the pushchair in any combination of one or two car seats, carrycots or normal seats, making it suitable for differing ages and size of children, if you're not using it with twins.
Forward, rearward and fully reclinable
There is a big drive to encourage parents with young children to use parent-facing pushchairs. The National Literacy Trust believe this early communication is very important. However, your child (especially once he or she is a little older) will also like to look out and about at where you're going, so it's great to be able to easily adjust this to front or rear-facing positions.
The seats are reclinable, so after six months or so, it's still a comfortable ride for the youngest infants even when you're not using a car seat or carrycot. The seats are independently reclinable from each other.
An effortless return to the 'single' life
With the simple removal of the tech-sounding Pip converter, the Pear can be used as a single pushchair, which is great if you have an older sibling who will only need use of the buggy for a year or so.
The iCandy Pear's vital stats
The Pear has all-round suspension and air-filled rear tyres for great shock-absorption and a cosy ride for the smallest passengers.
For parents, there are seven different height positions for the handlebar making it appealing for the tallest or shortest adult to push comfortably.
There is a large storage basket underneath which is great when you have new babies - who seem to require the most day to day luggage!
The iCandy Pear conforms to safety standard BS EN 1888 and the weight of the chassis when used with both chairs is 18kg. That's a lot compared to a single buggy but fares well in the premium double-buggy category.
It folds down to almost the size of a single model when not in use.
