Baby sleeping bags are a great way to ensure your baby gets a good night sleep without wriggling under bed covers or kicking off blankets. However, whilst cotton ones are usually great, ones made from merino wool are fabulous!
Why is merino wool so good?
As well as being incredibly soft and light, making it comfortable against a baby's new skin and easy to move in, merino wool is naturally breathable. This creates a 'microclimate' around your child, so her body is never too warm or cold, especially useful in weather when a warm bedroom gets colder during the middle of the night. Additionally, the wool more easily absorbs moisture, should a nappy leak, for example, so your baby does not 'sit' in the wet for too long.
Merino wool is also naturally fire resistant, so it does not need to be treated with chemicals to meet safety standards when the sleeping bag is being made.
Bambino Merino
Bambino Merino make wonderful, light and cosy sleeping bags with natural wool from New Zealand.
With pop-open buttons on the shoulders and a full zip around the outside of the bag (for nappy-changing when your baby is tired or sleeping, so you don't have to take the bag off), the sleeping bags are adjustable in size so they suit babies from around three months to two years without being too baggy for smaller babies and not too cramped for toddlers.
In delicate pink, blue and dusky sage and a light striped design, they come in their own fabulous travel bags.
They are machine washable and can be tumble dried at low heat, so you can wash them in a day and have them back in your baby's cot by bedtime.
The sleeping bags retail for £49.95, which compares well with other premium sleeping bags. You can buy them direct from the company, too.
Other Bambino Merino goodies
Bambino Merino also make long-sleeved sleepsuits which come in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months. They also make a soft one-size hat. Both of these come in pink, blue and sage. They also make ivory-coloured long-sleeved vests in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months.
