Review: BabyBjörn Carrier Synergy

BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Synergy

happyface Very secure, baby can face out or in, breathable material and lots of new failsafe features
sadface Nothing to fault, though we'd like it in some other funky colours, please!
Features: Padded baby carrier to carry your baby securely on your chest. Head and leg supports for a young baby and thick, cross-over, front adjustable straps for the parent. Head support later folds down to allow you to carry your baby facing outwards with a view on the world. Suitable from newborn to 12kg.
Price: around £90

BabyBjörn Synergy

The BabyBjörn concept:
The original BabyBjörn baby carrier is designed to allow parents to give their babies the reassurance and comfort of being held close and warm while leaving mum or dad both hands free to get on with whatever needs doing.
Young babies face towards the parent and are supported with a head-rest so they can sleep comfortably on the parent's chest. Once baby's neck muscles are strong enough to hold his head up he can also face outwards to see what's happening in the outside world.
The BabyBjörn Carrier has evolved a great deal over the years, developed with changing parenting habits (the need to be adjustable for mums AND dads to use, for example), as well as being inspired by feedback from customers. Thus, we have the Synergy.

The BabyBjörn Carrier Synergy in action:
You can instantly feel that the material is lighter than other carriers (both BB ones and other makes), with a mesh finish that is cool in hot weather and warm in cooler weather. However, the back supports of the carrier are just as sturdy as ever, fitting round your waist and across your back comfortably, but with reassuring strength.
Adjustable elements to deal with differing waist sizes and back lengths have been updated to make them easier to change, but with failsafe elements to make sure that when you come to fit it all back together, your baby can't fall out of the carrier.

As with the other BabyBjörn carrier models, once your baby is securely clipped in, he really isn't going anywhere, and it inspires total confidence: This is one carrier that you won't find yourself supporting/securing your baby in with one hand 'just-in-case'. Although of course, when your baby is very tiny and can't hold his head up you'll be checking frequently to see whether his head is at a comfortable angle.

Unlike many other clip-in baby carriers, you can open the BabyBjörn up at the front at both sides without removing the harness, so that you can set a sleeping baby down in his bed with minimal disturbance.

Comfort for baby
The unique, breathable '3D mesh' is designed to efficiently reduce heat and moisture. This isn't only useful in summer months, but also when you go in and out of stuffy buildings at colder times of the year. This kind of matieral also fits itself more snugly to your baby's body shape as it is not as stiff as some other companys' models prove to be.
The carrier has good support underneath so that your baby 'sits' rather than simply dangling from the carrier, and the top ridge is especially soft so it can support a new or an older baby's head, but also not restrict a baby who wants to face forward while you are walking along.

Comfort for you
The straps are thick enough that they don't dig into your shoulders or side, but they are flexible for you to wear and lighter too, which may well enable you to continue to carry your baby in it for longer than you might have done with a carrier that is cumbersome before you even add your baby to it!

The ThinkBaby verdict

A reliable, good-looking and intelligent baby carrier!
