I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and sometimes she stops moving, which causes me to panic! Why does she suddenly go quiet?

Gail says…
At 25 weeks your baby will be moving around a lot, but she is still quite small and needs to kick hard for you to feel it. Women mainly feel the movements when their baby kicks out towards the front, but because she is active she may move to a position which means that most of the movements may well be towards your back when you may not feel them. In addition, your baby will also have periods of quiet when she is asleep, so you will not feel them.
It is important to be aware of your baby's movements and you may notice a pattern in her periods of activity and sleep, but don't worry if it all feels random. If you are concerned that your baby seems less active, think about what you have been doing - if you have been busy or preoccupied you may simply have not noticed her moving. Take some time for a rest, sit with your feet up and have a drink. Put your hand on your tummy and you will probably very quickly notice your baby moving. If you have any concerns about the movements, contact your midwife, who will arrange for you to be monitored if necessary.
